In a previous thread I posted regarding my recent purchase of pair of B&W 804S speakers to replace my B&W 602.5s. I'm also using B&W 600 for surrounds and B&W HTM7 for center (which needs to be upgraded to HTM3).
I'm very happy with the 804s but quickly realized the Denon 3803 would need to be upgraded. I borrowed a Rotel RB-1080 and Bryston 4B SST from my local dealer for an at home demo. The Bryston was the clear winner. In any case it was obvious I needed to upgrade the Denon, for 2 channel music.
The problem is the Bryston was more than twice the Rotel. I also think I got side tracked with 2 channel audio. I'm more like 70% HT and 30% music. I'm thinking I need a pre/pro and 5 channel amp first to replace the Denon entirely (then look into a 2 channel amp later).
I currently thinking a Rotel RMB-1075 and Rotel RSP-1068 (I can get both of these for the price of the Bryston 4B SST). Ideally the Bryston 9B SST woudl be the answer, but too much $$$ for my budget.
So I'm looking for some suggestions, comments, etc. Is the RMB-1075 going to be enough to drive the B&W 804s at lower volume? Should I consider a RB-1080 for the 804s and use the RMB-1075 for the center and surrounds? How about the Rotel RMB-1095? Over kill (and over budget)? How about the RSP-1068? Is it that much better than using the Denon as the pre/pro? I'm hoping to demo it soon, I haven't looked at yet.
Thanks!
