704/htm7 to 804s/htm3s, what about surrounds?

I'm likely going to be trading up my 704/HTM7 combo for 804s/HTM3S. My surrounds are currently DS7's, and am wondering what I really have to gain for trading up to SCMS or DS8s. From specs, it looks like bottom end might drop from 80Hz +/-3db to 60Hz +/-3db. The primary of use of my surrounds is for movies, and I have very few multi-channel DVD-A/SACD titles. Any thoughts? Anyone w/ experience w/ SCMS or DS8s?

    mafoo,

I am sure you would enjoy the upgrades from 704/HTM7 to 804S to HTM3S. the 804S & HTM3S contains the FST driver that will make a huge difference in the performance of your system.

As far as surrounds goes, I really have no opinion on the difference between DS7 or DS8.

And per the 80Hz to 60Hz drop; I don't think it should matter much if you have a sub and you put the crossover point at 80hz.

I've got 703's, HTM7, and 705's, and I can tell ya, I hear a disparity between the HTM7 and 703's. Really can't tell a difference with the 705's, even though they have the same crossover and driver system as the HTM7.

My best guess is that because of the proximity and limited amount of information coming from the surrounds (for DTS and DD 5.1), you'll get by. If you want to do DVD audio or SACD, that's a different story I'd think.

          704 / 703 / 804S comparison
          by csuzor
I spent some time comparing 704 / 703 / 804S during a serious listening session. I was looking to either buy the 703 (and use my 704 as surrounds), or an amp (I drove home with the RSP1068 + RMB1075, see post Rotel section). My results:

704: familiar sound, but in this context a little...

          Htm3s + ((804s + Asw825) Or 803s)?
          by csuzor
I am trying to decide which is the better option
          1. HTM3S + 804S + ASW825
          2. HTM3S + 803S

The price is similar (a little more for option 1), and I know option 2 could be upgraded in the future with the ASW825, but I have to limit myself a little.

          I feel the...

I just got my B&W 804S speakers yesterday. Funny how I came around to selecting them. Here's my story....

I've had B&W 602.5 / B&W LCR60 / B&W 600 for my system for about a year and a half and wanted to upgrade (don't we all). I researched the internet, read posts here,...

          Comments: B&W 704 vs. N805
          by bcgator
          Hey gang,

Thought I'd throw some comments out, maybe spur a discussion. I started putting together a surround sound system earlier this year....added a set of maple B&W 704 (fronts) and HTM7 center to an older pair of ADS L570's (backs) to get myself started.

          Well,...

          B&W HTM3S vs HTM7
          by wb2fcr
A couple of days ago I finally replaced my B&W HTM7 with a HTM3S to go with my 804S fronts. I can definitely tell the difference between the two. The only way I can describe it is - the 800 series 'warmth' vs. the 700 series 'brightness'. Now the center blends in much better with the fronts....
