    805 or 705

If I could get a pair of 4 year old 805's in great condition for the same price as new 705's, what would you all recommend.

    Thanks

    805. You may consider adding a sub to use with the 805. Same consideration if you were to buy the 705.

My plan was for the following equipment.
      705 Mains
      HTM-7 Center
      DCS6 S3 Surrounds
      ASW-675 Sub
      Rotel Gear
      Pioneer Elite Plasma

I'm still open to suggestions since nothing is ordered.

      Thanks
      John

Lemme tell ya what *I* did and how I feel about it 1 year later.

I was intending for a mostly home theater system and some occasional music (say 80/20). So, surrounds and a center channel were a must have NOW thing. I bought 703s, HTM7, 705s, and Rotel's 1068, 1075, and 1060 DVD player. VERY happy with my system. So much so that I've really started listening to music a LOT more.

So, now I've found myself, a year later, able to upgrade some equipment, and I'm trying to make 2-ch stereo sound better. My dealer (a year ago) suggested getting a 2-ch stereo setup and adding surround and center channels later. At the time, I gave it NO consideration.

Now, a year later, if I could go back, I'da bought the best front 2 speakers I could and the best amp to drive 'em. Try listening to the 704s or 703s.

If you're going for dedicated home theater, be sure you demo movies and not just music.

          John,

The question is, are you more of a HT or stereo guy? If the system is intended for mostly HT, then I think the 705s will be my choice.

However, if you put at least equal weights on HT and stereo, then I would second GRRIT's advice that you should get the best front speakers and amps you can get, then add center and surround later on. Other wise you might end up like me having two separate sets of speakers and electronics. I started with HT in mind during the initial DVD craze back in the early days but later on realized that I actually listen to stereo music more than I expected...so ended up getting additional gears for that, you can see my system by following the link below:

Anyhow, good luck with your decision. This is all part of the fun/pain this hobby brings....choices. :W

Musings on trying out the 705 and 805

            G'day,

So I went to a the local B&W dealer tonight, and performed some serious auditions on the 805, mainly testing out the lower end. It's good, better than I thought, but not quite perfect. However, I reckon the imaging, detail, and openness of the 805s more than compensate for...

            705 or 805?
            by EAmin
I'm looking to use bookshelf speakers for my home theater, as I have two young kids who would destroy floorstanders. I'm very impressed with the reviews the 705s are getting, but am questioning whether to spend the extra dollars for 805s. I don’t mind dropping extra dough as long as it is a better...

            Next step a HTM7?
            by weijst
            Hi all!

After going nuts on the matter 705 / 805, I hope my next upgrade will be a little easier ...

I eventually decided to get the 705s. For harmonic resemblance I could (or should?) get the HTM7, since it's essentially a 705 on its side (or is it, there is a difference...

            by alpina
            hi all,

we have heard the 705s and love them - fits the aesthetics of our room perfectly.

given the price differential (nearly double), we are now wondering what the difference between the 705 and 805 are? i appreciate that its all relative, but those that have heard both...

            704 vs 705
            by JohnnyH
Quick question for you all. I am getting ready to order a set of 705's and I wonder if anyone has compared the 704's to the 705's. By the time you buy stands for the 705's, you could almost buy a set of 704. It would be coupled to a HTM7 Center, ASW675 Sub and some DSC6 surrounds. All Rotel gear...
