    802D with Rotel 1091/1092

Are any of you 802D owners thinking about auditioning/purchasing the Rotel 1091 or 1092 when they become available?

I'm particularly interested in this combination because it potentially makes 802D ownership more affordable.

Based on Jerry's experience this thread should have about 1000 posts by the time someone actually posts a review.

When they are "sneak previewed" in January's CES Rotel were talking $1500 for the RB-1091 and $2500 for the RB-1092... SHould be a bargain if they stick to that..

For those of us not too au fait with the new amps, what are they? Monos or stereo.
I understand that they will be digital?
          George.

            George,

The RB-1091 is mono, 500W into 8 ohm and 1000W into 4 ohm

The RB-1092 is a stereo version of this.

They are based on B&Os ICEPower technology - which is a switching amplifier that is high quality and highly effecient...

The Jeff Rowland 501's are very similar...

Could these amps handle a nominal 2.5 ohm load? The NuForce Ref 8/9 digital amps publish specs for 2 ohms. Some of the larger Aussie speakers are difficult to drive, and I'm wondering if the Rotel amps are worth considering here.

To some that may seem like a presumptious title, but after spending about an hour now with the 1077 running 2 channel, it may be closer to the truth than many can imagine. The 1077 has real b---s and one doesn't need a wheelbarrow to cart it around either! While real critical listening will have to wait awhile until I get some

From what he says the 1077 has absolutely no problem with the Klipsch RF7 hitting 2.8 ohms...

I recently visited my Rotel dealer and asked him the same thing about using the 1091-1092 and was told that while they surely could power the 802D's he was of the opinion that the 802D's deserved a far better power source such as Classe or Krell. Then went on to say that they probably were not even going to have a demo available.
Have to say I was amazed.

                        Springer,

Sounds like you dealer is a "digital bigot"... His comments are more valid for the older Rotel line which don't do full justice to the capabiities of the 802Ds.. Give this time, wait for the 1092 to come out and be reviewed and then try again... If the reviews are as good as people expect, then I think your dealer will be eating humble pie in a year or so...

I am considering selling my Linn set-up and getting myself a rb-1092 or two rb-1091 to run a pair of B&W 802d. Could I use my Linn unidisc sc to control the rotel gear - would this cumbo work together well??
                          Any thoughts...?

Also I am wondering - is the rb-1092 good enough...

                          by RebelMan
I was running some errands today that inadvertently brought me near a Rotel dealer. I had some extra time on my hands so I thought I would pop in and see what changes have taken place since my last visit, which wasn’t that long ago. One of the salesmen, that I have gotten to know pretty well, was...

Today, I just got back from hearing the 1090 and 1091/1092 amps duke it out with the BW802D... side by side. I must say, I preferred the RB1090 by a good margin. I thought that the 1090 took better control of the 802D in ALL aspects, from the bass to the diamond tweeter. The 1090 had greater stage...

Rotel RB-1091 or RB-1092 Voltage Settings
                          by EmilSA
Since the Rotel RB-1091 is based in the ICEpower board it leads me to believe it is rather easy to set the voltage from 110 Volt to 230 Volt using the standard jumpers on the board.

I'm looking for two RB-1091's or a RB-1092 at present and seem to have found one RB-1091 in the UK and...
