Binding posts - NEED HELP

I just unpacked my new 804S and see the 4 binding posts in the back have small plastic plugs. In order to use my banana plugs i need to remove these things but i have no idea how.... :cry:

Please shed some light on this so i can sleep tonight

I had the same thing on my 805S...you can pull them out either with your fingernails or some needle nose pliers. They should come right out.

If I understand you correctly, you're talking about these balck and red small plastic pins that are stuck in the bannana sockets.
The B&W 800 series manual says that these are safety pins commonly used in Europe. I took these out simply by pooling them . it does require minimal force, no big deal, you can use any kind of instrument for a better hold ,then, just pull them out!

i tried that but these are not the typical caps that i've seen before these are inside the casing and stick out towards me where the banana plug should go....

There is another thread here on the forum where everbody offered their tips on getting those !@#$%^ plugs out. They are a real pain.

Best tip I saw was from Jlee:

I used one of the big staples from the box... angle the staple in there, and "screw" the WBT cap into it... the pin will gradually be pushed out by the end of the staple... took me 1 min. for each one. The B&W salesman showed me this technique.

Is it safe to use nose pliers or I should use a staple from the box?

I used a small knife like a paring or filet style to lift the edge of the plugs until I could remove them by hand. This preserves them if you ever decide to sell your speakers with the plugs not having holes from staples or pinched from pliers. Good luck and enjoy!

If I remember correctly, I don't believe that the caps on the binding posts can be removed. Screw the caps all the way down to expose as much of the plugs as possible. My memory is failing me so hopefully I am correct about this.

First of all, do not force anything. If is meant to be removed, it will be effortless.

Maybe I am missing the point of your posts, so humor me. Try this.

1. Screw the caps (clockwise) all the way until tight as if you have are connecting spades or bare wire to the speakers.
2. Take a thin knife and flip up the edge of the red and black plugs in the center of the posts.
3. Using your the knife or your fingernails, work the plugs out of the posts.
4. Insert your banana plugs into the appropriate posts.

Caution: Nothing on the clear posts is to be removed except the 5 cents plugs.

Removing the banana plugs is VERY EASY to do!

1. Have a needlenose pliers and a small cotton cloth handy.
2. Keep the screw caps tightened to make the plugs accessible.
3. Using the pliers, grab a hold of the plug using the cloth as protection and pull straight out. Repeat for the remaining plugs.

Guys, I can believe that it only took me less then a min. to remove those plastic posts. I used Craftsman nose plier. It left no marks on the posts.

believe it or not i actually used my teeth to remove the plastic posts. I was too lazy to go into the garage to get pliers so i got on all fours, bit down, and pulled those posts right out. who needs tools!

I've used the teeth technique at our store on numerous occasions.You just get so excited to hook up a pair of 800 series B&W's that you don't have the time to waste looking for a pair of pliers. :T

the front teeth. Yes, it does not look good when you are doing it, but it is the fastest and safest way to go. (compare with using knife...etc)
