    B&W 705s with Rotel 1056

    Hi,
I just a got couple of 705 and a Rotel RSX 1056. Initially paired 705s on a loaner Marantz from dealer (think this was 770 or some thing, with 60W per channel) for about 2 weeks until my Rotel arrived. I was happy with the loaner setup, but then I received Rotel and hooked it up. Immediately noticed better details but with any bit extended listening I feel fatigue and I am a little confused at this point. Cables and other env. factors were constant between these changes. Browsing this forum, more people seem to say that 705s tend to sound agressive, neverthless, I am definitely not enjoying them, as I hoped for. I did hear them in Dealer and was initially impressed, but for last 2 weeks or so, I am not quite too sure any more.

With this said, I am seriously considering bi-wiring, 704s or 805s as next possible changes in that order. On the other hand, I couldn't decide, if I should return/change Rotel amp.

btw, I intend to use these 75% - 25% music to ht.

    Any suggestions are most appreciated.

One thing to consider to breakin for both the speaker and amp. I had the same problem with my 805S and Rotel 1080. After a couple of weeks everything settled down.

tboooe Thanks. I had these speakers for about a month now and Rotel for over 2 weeks. Speakers should be well broken.

I still love these speakers when I am watching movies but not so sure for music. At times they tend to be boomy and not much pleasure in the high frequency either, where they tend to be harsh with certain sounds. I don't have a sub yet, but the music I hearing to, mostly R&B and other is not bass heavy either. Looks like 705s are more designed as surrounds than main speakers.

Would you think, 704 would make any difference. Or adding a (Rotel?) 2 Ch. preamp would make bigger difference. As I realized, I am spending much more time that originally thought, listening to music than watching movies.

      thanks,

I too, was initially saddened by my combo of Rotel (pre & amp) & B&W (N804). After breakin I biwired and have not looked back - quite a difference in sound. I will soon be adding a subwoofer to the setup. Try biwiring (you do not need 'exotic' cables to enjoy the outcome).

miner, are you telling me go to 8 series here..? ;-) Not sure if I can at this point. I want to stick to 7 series (obviously for budget reasons) and enjoy some music primarily and build a HT in next few months.

          Any other suggestions?

            pradht:

i listen to the same type of music with my 805. some other things to consider:

            1. how is the placement of the 705s? are they near a back or side wall? if so you may want to move them away a bit.
            2. have you tried the foam plug? i too had boomy bass because I am not able to place my 805s away from the wall. the foam plug cured my problems.
            3. do you have any processing being done by the 1056? in other words, do you have an equalization or bass enhancement being done?
            4. is there anyway for you to bypass the 1056? if you have another amp can you connect your source directly to the amp then the amp directly to the speakers.

try these things and let me know.

              Pradht:

I actually have the same system for the most part.
              Rotel RSX-1056
              Front L/R: B&W 705
              Center: B7W HTM7
              Surrounds: B&W CCM65
              Sub: B&W ASW600

When played w/o a sub at the dealer I was not sold. They seemed a bit hollow. However, after I got them home and had the system calibrated by the dealer and added the sub, I was blown away. I do not currently have the 705's bi-wired. I am looking into it but have only had the system a few months. I can't imagine that you are unhappy with the sound but I would definately suggest adding a sub to round out the spectrum. I probably will trade up my ASW600 as I think I may be bottoming out on some home theater viewings which create a rattle. I also plan to add the Rotel RB-1080 to run the fronts and add 2 B&W CWM650's (rear surrounds) to get 7.1. Keep in touch so we can correspond on changes which may save us both some time and money.
              John :T

                Rotel 1067 vs 1056 + RB 1070
                by BruinsFan
What's the difference between Rotel 1067 and 1056 + RB 1070 (mains redirected to provide 7.1 setup)? The 1067 would have more power all around but the 1056/1070 would give more and I would think better power to the mains. There's about a $200 price difference I think - so what else am I missing in...

Buying the Rotel RSX-1056 receiver tonight!!!

Well, my family and I are finally going to just take the plunge and buy the RSX-1056 receiver tonight!

We are all actually extremely worried about all the RSX-1056 quality-control issues we've read so much about here in these forums (i.e. hiss, pops/clicks, video dropouts, remote control...

I've been lurking around here for a bit and this is my first post. I just made the plunge on my first rotel components, RSX 1056 and RDV 1050. All i can say is holy s*** i should have made the leap a long time ago. My new 1056 has no bad issues in terms of what i heard on the boards.

                Hello,

After reading the forum for many months, I'm finally posting here for the first time. I have just upgraded the front L/R/C speakers of my HT to Dynaudio Audience 52SE's and 42C. I also have 3 small surround satellites and a subwoofer (6.1 system). I live abroad and will take advantage...

                1. I decided to upgraded my old home theater system by replacing my 939 Onkyo’s Receiver with the newest Rotel’s RSX-1056 :T , and also decided to keep the Laser-disk (DX-V370) for the concerts collection which I have.
The problem that I crossed that I don’t know were and how to connect...
