    How to tell authenticity?

I have the possibility of purchasing some N802's for very cheap (~$2K) from someone who unfortunately needs money very fast and is in a tough situation. Since this person is only an acquintance I do not know them very well. Even though their situation is unfortunate, I cannot pass up the opportunity to get a pair of 802 at a ridiculous price.

That leads me to my problem. The price is too cheap. My getting screwed radar is telling me that it is too good to be true. I am thinking that either they are stolen or fake. Is there anyway I can authenticate these speakers? What if I get the serial #? Can I check these on the B&W website?

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would be skeptical as well, the expression goes if it is too good to be true it probably is.

That being said, obtain the serial number, (hopefully you will see it for yourself) and possibly verify through B&W tech support via telephone. Also you may want to listen to them prior to purchase. Just my quick thoughts.

    Good luck,

Whats the worst that could happen......

      1. They are "hot" (stolen).

      2. They don't work.

Can you test to see that they are in good working order before purchasing? If not it sure sounds risky to me. I would not lay my $$$ on the line, sight unseen.
There was a fellow I bumped into on the forum who bought some 802's for a few hundred dollars from Goodwill, things like that do happen.

Even though it's not allowed by dealers, you could get the serial number and find out the build date.

          Help With Serial Numbers
          by Jody
I was hoping somenbody here might be able to interpret the following serial number for a RSP-1066.

          FR019713081118239A

As the new 1068 is soon to arrive I can get a pretty decent deal on a 1066 demo that the store here in town has.

          I was wondering based on...

Mr. Brooks is serial killing 101

Kevin Costner ( yes, I am and always have been a hard core fan ) portrays a serial killer and William Hurt portrays his " other " personality, the one that kills. Costner( Earl Brooks) is a rich industrialist with a beautiful wife ( Marg Helgenburger ) and a lovely ( but is she really ? )...

Is any one using the serial connection to control their 1098? I did see a nice VB app but I was hoping someone was using Girder. I cant get the receiver to respond to the serial commands using Girder. I hoping there was some help out there.

Second, are the serial codes posted anywhere....

For those of you interested in remote serial 2-way control of the Halo C1/C2 there is some good news, Cinemar is working on a plugin for their Main Lobby control program that will allow RS-232 (serial) 2-way control of all major functions. I originally bought this program to control the Sony CX777ES...

          Serial Number Question
          by AB11
Ok. I cannot get to the back of my amps but I need to know the serial numbers.
I can get to the boxes and I assume they have the serial numbers on them.
On each box there are 2 bar coded numbers - top one quite long with alphas bottom one not so long and lacking alphas.
