This is no April Fools Joke folks. During the next couple of days, we will be picking a day to migrate HTGuide to a new server. We will have the same reliable service we have always had, as we are not changing Hosting Services, only moving to a new updated state of the art server! Support is working to coordinate things right now.
We will announce the date of migration from old server to the new server in due time. We hope to minimize downtime while the DNS propagates to our new IP address, and service is restored. But some downtime is inevitable.
The B&W 801D is generally targeted more as a specialist speaker for recording studios etc. It is quite sensitive to room placement or the bass can be not as tight as the 800D... Personally I'd stick to the 800D.
Re the DD18 vs ASW875 - my sense is you are comming down to personal preference. Both can do prodigious volumes of deep bass. Both are flagship Subwoofers, each clearliy in the top 10 in the world. For me it would depend on price and the HT vs Music balance. For HT the DD18 has the edge as its serve controlled driver will faithfuly follow the deepest of basss rumbles. For music, I'd be looking at the ASW875 for the perfect integraiton audio and visual) with the 800D....
But - either way you need to listen, both to some quality music and some serious HT and decide.
You may take a very close look at the Velodyne DD18. The EQ software that comes with this unit is quite a leap forward in subwoofer technology. Tuning the Velodyne to your room is automated and very accurate. It DOES make a very big difference. I will be owning the Velodyne 18 within the next few months.
I can not say that I'm not happy with it. The auto EQ works absolute wonders for adjusting to the room. I got it at a fairly good deal so I thought I'd give it a try. It has enormous capablilty. It will rock the rafters. The only thing I feel might be missing is the lowest end of the spectrum. The Sunfire just seems to fall a bit short in the true musical speed of the bass I'm looking for in the low end. I also don't think Sunfire built the unit heavy enough. It does not seem to handle it's own enormous output very well as regards vibration. The Velodyne DD18 weighs in at 120lbs. Not to say that weight determins the quality of sound but perhaps it's a factor. Of course, the Sunfire is half the price or less, so for the money, it is definately a top contender.
By the way, I did not know the ASW875 had digital EQ. Missed that. Isn't it a discontinued model? Does the ASW855 have EQ?
Thanks.
Yeah, but as far as what my dealer told me, the digital eq on the 875 doesn't touch digital drive, and doesn't even have on screen display....something to consider.
I'd love to demo them side by side...features/SQ/SPL/Accuracy...
I bet your right...this is B&W's first attempt at digital EQ....and they obvsiously dropped the 865 version for a reason. While Velodyne has been doing this for some time now.
I have 800D fronts with N802 rear speakers and an HTM2D center. I just purchased Velodyne DD12 (wanted to go 18" but wife said no more large speakers! 8O ). For HT, I have a Denon 5085. How should I set up my speakers? Should I go Large on all speakers Or, should I set the speakers (some or all)...
I've been told the ASW875's are not yet shipping. I'm pretty close to finalizing the purchase of a 5.1 system with 802D's as the front left and right speakers, and am leaning toward HTM1D for the center. I will probably go with McIntosh MC501's for the front three speakers.
I am trying to decide what sub to add to my 2 Channel / HT setup. I listen 50/50 HT to 2 channel. I have a Classe Delta 2 Channel sysem with HT pass thru with a Denon 5803A for HT. I also have 2 Classe CAM350 mono amps connected to both the Classe Delta and the Denon fronts. My speakers are 800D in...
HI All,
I’m in the midst of an experiment. The HT system I am currently putting together is for my bedroom. It’s now mostly finished and I must say it sounds very good. Here is the essence of the experiment.
Can I use a good bookshelf speaker (the 805S) and a good subwoofer...
