    Sub with B&W 803s?

I'm planning on getting the new B&W 803S when they come out. Currently, I'm using CDM 1NT's as mains coupled with a sub. I'm sure the 803S will sound much better than the CDM 1NTs when I get them. I'm using a much cheaper sub (Polk PSW 650) which is fine for movies but not great for music. Due to my current system configuration, the bass frequencies are definitely attenuated when listening to music (but not movies) as they are processed differently.
I was wondering if a sub is absolutely necessary when listening to music. I'll use my sub for movies, but my room isn't too large, so I really don't think it'll be necessary. Any thoughts on this?

If your room isn't too big I'd certianly try to avoid using a sub with the 803's for music. It is just one more component to try and integrate with your main speakers and the chances are that you'll have issues getting things just right. Also, in a smaller room you might have issues with too much output from the 803's woofers. So, I'd recommed trying the 803's by themselves and then deciding what direction to go and try to save the sub for movies only.

My DIY sonotube sub is done. Pic and impressions inside.
      by JonW
It’s done and, right away, I’ll say I’m very happy with it. This was my first DIY project. Before starting, I wasn’t even sure what a router is. I borrowed one for the project. But I had so much fun making the sub that I’ve since bought my own tools and will soon be trying to build some...

      Hey guys:

Would you mind please answering the questions below, which I think would be helpful to many forum members?:

      1) Considering that the 802D's are amazing full range speakers, what made you decide to integrate a sub into the mix?

      2) Do you only use...

      Sold Sub, Needed New One
      by taz13
Sold one of my DIY systems and included the sub I have been using upstairs. Now I needed a sub for movies tomorrow afternoon. I am renoing my home theater, so I have several Tempests from my IB kicking around. Also have the amp, so I just needed a box. And I didn't want to have to finish it. So I built...

Need help on built in sub design
      by taz13
While I like the response of the current incarnation of my home theater/listening room for two channel music, I need a sub for movies. Is there anything stopping me from building a box in an adjacent room with the speaker and vent fitting between two studs but isolated from the wall. I am planning...

Advice needed- sub or new front speakers?
      by kleeper
      Hi all,

New to the forum, though I've been hooked on B&Ws for 8 or 9 years now. Great place. Anyways, I'm looking to add to my setup and was hoping for a little advice from someone who knows more than I do (probably everyone in this forum, as I'll admit I'm a little deficient...
