    question about possible 6.1 option

Well, I've told everyone to death what I will do with 5.1 so no sense in repeating. What I have been wondering is a possible 6th speaker to create a 6.1 setup.

I wanted to see what people thought of the idea of using a DS7 as a 6th channel. I was thinking that since it is a dipole, it would not necessarily direct all the sound straight ahead and would work. This is of course if I could get the dealer to sell me just one.

The one big problem with this idea would be that it would only be a foot to 2 feet behind the listening position. Would that be too close to make it worthwhile, or since it is dipole, would that compensate enough to make it worth it?
I'm just sittin here watchin the wheels go round and round...

I, for one, have never been a big fan of Dipole (yet other's are the exact opposite, they love them). To me, and this is just my personal opinion), the dipole sends the information that was meant for that channel towards the left rear and right rear channels. But the way all the 6.1 discs are made is with a monopole speaker with information specifically supposed to come from that position. That's the way they (the sound engineers) designed the disc.

Course I don't use any DSP stuff while listing either where lots of people do.

I think it's just a personal preference. If it's only about 2' behind you as long as it's calibrated (most likely will turn it down a lot), there shouldn't be any problem and it will probably add to your experience.

      Critique my "unique" dipole speaker
      by Mazeroth
I had originally planned to build a dipole much like the Arvo but with dual RS315s, duals RS180 mids and a single RS28a tweeter. The more I thought about it the less I wanted a 14" wide speaker and something that's already been built. I did some calculating and am almost sold on this design:...

Breaking with modern conventions - a highly musical 2-way system using an 8" woofer
      by theSven
      By Jon Hancock

This article will describe the fruits of my efforts to build a moderate sized speaker which might be moderately above average in performance for a basic two-way system. I desired a speaker like this both for my own use in secondary systems, and to fill a need for some friends, who desired fairly full range response (i.e., “it’s gotta have good bass”). Also, though I have access to a good wood shop, many potential DIY enthusiasts may not, so I hoped to use a modified...

Dipole with BMS Accuton and B&G
      by Martijn_H
Hello, this is my first post on this board!

I am building a three way dipole with the BMS15N840, the Accuton C90 (173N-C90/6) and the B&G Neo3pdr.

The dipole is a semi U-frame for the woofers, so half cardioid, half 8 figure behavior.

OK, first off this is not an advertisement, I really am looking for some input.

I bought an Epson S1 and have been thrilled with the unit. Great picture and a great price. I wanted to mount it in my home and looked online for ceiling mounts.....man, they were expensive! There was no...
