Over the years we've attempted to have discussions regarding the various kit speakers offered by vendors. Almost without exception these threads have ended up locked. As a result we're going to prohibit discussion regarding any kit loudspeaker.
Why?
1) Some vendors view these threads as an opportunity to hype their wares.
2) Frequently vendors become defensive when any comment about a kit is considered by the vendor to be less than complementary.
3) Some vendors have indicated they don't consider the people posting here adequately qualified to comment about their kits. (for example, since we aren't IEEEs, and they are, therefore we aren't 'qualified' to express an opinion regarding the performance of their kits)
4) On occasion we've been accused of trying to "steal" someone's customer. For that we apologize, we were ignorant of the fact that customers became the 'property' of the kit company after making a purchase
This unfortunately creates a catch-22 situation for the potential kit speaker buyer.
Why?
When there's a forum moderated by the kit vendor, open discussion regarding the performance of the products isn't allowed. So where does one find honest evaluations regarding these products? Sorry but I don't know.
What I do know is that we are very happy to discuss any scratch built DIY loudspeakers, and only those kinds of projects will be discussed on this forum.
Note this exclusion also includes discussion about any drivers or other components exclusive to kit vendors.
PS: this is not a blanket condemnation of kit builders or their products. Quite the contrary, many products from these companies are very good. However like any product one buys caveat emptor.
