Hello all,
I have some questions/problems related to video scalers. I first started using the XGA theater product from AV toolbox some years ago. I later switched up to the AVT 3700 (Trident DPTV 3D chip), from the same company, which I understand to be a re-branded Zinwell Briteview.
I am considering trying a different scaler by ESI (VLS-2000, Genesis chip) and I am looking for any insights and oppinions.
Some history/links first:
These links show the 3700 and Brightview (the newer DVI brightview, however)
Secrets of Home theater did a review of progressive scan DVD players that included the 3700 and Briteview for some of the tests

There is now the an AVT 3800, but this seems to the same except for the exterior.
However, I have recently considered trying this video scaler: VLS-2000 by ESI electronics.
Although its says accepts 480i, the website says it takes ANY interlaced signal. And manual says it outputs at 50z (PAL)
and this thread has some references to the ESI
OK...so now the questions.
Is there any reason to think the ESI would be better than the AVT 3700?
Also what uses 960p and/or 1152p? The ESI does 960p (NTSC?) and 1152p (PAL?).
I thought it works like this 640x480 = 480p NTSC = 576p PAL (640x576)
But of course there is no equivelent computer resolution for 720p and up.
The AVT 3700 does 720p but not 960 or 1152 and it also does 1080i (which the ESI doesnt do). Since I will be using the scaler hooked up to a tft monitor at wxga resolution (768x1280) I guess all the "p" specs dont apply to me.
Well so there you have it. Just trying to see if anyone has used either of these, or preferably both, and failing that, if anyone thinks that the ESI might be better than the AVT preformance wise.
Also, does has anyone heard of a firmware upgrade or different versions of firmware for the Avt 3700?
