    DSS signal strength

This past week (in Canada) Bell ExpressVu changed all its satellite channels around to drive every Pronto user crazy......but the interesting thing is that I understand this action came about because they put up a new satellite (Nimiq 3 I believe)...

Anyway, they claimed more signal strength and less rain fade - which I only experienced about four times a year myself.

My old signal was always at 89%.

    Here's what it is now........

    Not bad.....

Wow! :E :E :E That should stop any "signal fade" from clouds, rain, snow or whatever! Good stuff Bruce. :T

Cool I'll have to check and see what I'm at now. I've had rain fade several times this year with various thunderstorms that rolled though.

Getting Started With Windows MCE for PVR
          by Jeff Kowerchuk
OK, I recently moved my computer into the same room as my HT system. I have no interest in getting into HTPC proper, but I would really like to be able to use my computer as a PVR, so I can stop using my SVHS deck.

My thought is to get Windows MCE 2005 (I can pick up an OEM copy with...

signal sensing amp at low volume?
          by likwidsh0k
Got a rb976mkII and the auto-sensing is great to use for the surrounds so it powers up when any surround material is played. Worked great until I decreased the volume to a bit quieter. Sometimes it switches off then straight back on again or I have to turn up the volume. Is this normal? I thought it...

          BMS+DSS+RS225=? HT Mains

I've got no room for dipole, and no budget for the C90.

The BMS 4540ND+DSS 1-90ENG combo sounds like just the ticket for an over the top box speaker.

Is 2 way WWTWW with the 4 ohm RS225 feasible?
After a look at the impedance control circuit, I know the X-overs won't...

Exploring Common DIY Terminology - Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)

          Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)

The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an important parameter that helps evaluate the performance and quality of the audio output. In the context of audio, SNR refers specifically to the ratio of the desired audio signal (the sound produced by the loudspeaker driver) to the background noise generated by the speaker itself or the overall system.

The formula to calculate SNR in decibels is:

          SNR (dB) = 10⋅log⁡10(PowerSignal/PowerNoise)

Flat Panel TV broadcasts aircraft emergency signal
          by Chris D
          In the news today:

This is very strange that one particular unit would make such a signal, not characteristic of the particular TV model. It does occasionally happen that electronic devices "bleed" over into aircraft radio and avionics frequencies, but not to...
