Of course, Greg Normal's golf playing hayday is over, as he's 59, but over the weekend, he almost ended playing golf forever. He accidentally swiped his hand on a chain saw! A guy with a 50 million yatch or something chain sawing his own trees? Does not compute. But he was, and the limb kicked the saw back into his hand. It was decelerating, as in he was let off of it, or it would have cut his hand completely off. He had minor nerve damage, but is expected to make a full recovery. He's recouperating at his ranch out west right now. He did not want to wake up and see that tree in Florida. I'd have the damn thing cut down.

Oh, Geez, that's scary.
Sometimes you get in that way where you just see something and decide to do it yourself. I'm just speculating that was the case, or he's typically a handy guy around and figured, crikey, I'll just take care of this myself, ain't go nothing better to do at the moment.
Good to hear he is on the mend and will recover.Paul

Greg is a Man's man, you know, a tough ole egg, he's not afraid of a little work. It was a small chain saw, and just cutting a few limbs. He drove down to it in a golf cart, lol. Chain saw in the back. he said he had a bad feeling about it for some reason, but proceeded anyway. The limb fell on the saw, and jammed it into his hand. Probably inexperience and badluck. Or out of practice anyway. However, he was really lucky. A chain saw is NOT a forgiving instrument. He's recovering, and is expected to make a full recovery. Good for him, he was in good spirits. I always liked Norman. He was always quite the gentleman in how he carried himself on the golf course, to be respected for being a class act, all the way.
I have used a chain saw a few times. Those things can get you in a hurry I think. I remember a close call or two myself, not real close, but close enough it scared me a bit. I dropped a tree that was like 8" in diameter and then trimmed up a bunch of stuff. I may be using it this fall, I have some things going out of control. I am pondering taking down my weeping cherry tree, it would be a good size job. Stripping the limbs off would go pretty quickly I guess. But the trunk is large, and would take time to take down. I also need to trim way back a tulip tree. it may be chain saw material, or it may be loping sheers.Doug

I always got a creepy feeling while using my chainsaw!. I always held it really firm (HARD actually) in the event of a kick back and always cut in a way that the tree limb would fall away from the saw and me. I was always aware of the kind of damage a tool like that could do to me in the event of contact.......especially my face!!.Dan Madden :T- Bottom

They are so dangerous, that's for sure. I had a half scary event or two with one, but never caught myself with one. Kick backs and such can scare the crap out of you. But got to keep it all well in front of you. My worst experience was when I cut the top off a tree was not knowing how it was going to fall, and it caught me a bit, tree only, I got the saw away from it. It wasn't a genius moment... It was more like a limb, but I under-estimated it anyway, how much force it would come down with.
But I am scared of them for sure. You know, you use stuff like this and never have any training to do so, that's pretty scary in and of itself. I heard of a guy cutting a tree from work once and the thing fell and caught his leg, and screwed his knee up. He wound up retiring because of this. Well, maybe he wanted an excuse to leave. He wasn't real happy there it seemed anyway, but he wasn't that old a guy either, sad really, he was a nice guy to talk too.Doug

I'm sure that most filmmakers want to believe that every film they make is a work of art, but most of what is coming out of Hollywood today is anything but art. As for me, well I put film in three columns. In the first column we have films as a form of pure entertainment. In the second column I put...-
