If the tree goes......then I go according to my wife. On Christmas day, she wants to move the tree right in front of one of my speakers to boot!!

No, this is serious! I could live with the tree up, but to move it again and in front of a speaker! I think you really need to take a stand! It is the domino effect, if you give an inch, they will take a mile. Next year it will be, you have to move your speakers for a better Christmas experience, your speakers are just in the way!

Please fight the good fight for all us AV nuts. We will be here to console you when your wife leaves you.

Really? That is a shame. We put a 7' short needle fur in the listening room (my wife still referrers to it as the Living Room for some strange reason). In the rear left corner from the speakers, it actually accentuates the room acoustics. Too bad the holidays are not year round, it’s one of the few WAF approved acoustic room treatment I’ve found. :W

Well, just to keep things in perspective, this is a TEMPORARY problem, and obviously gives one SUBSTANTIAL MOTIVATION for clearing out the Xmas tree on time and not leaving it up until Halloween.....

You know how, after you've tweaked your system to the max and have it sounding great, after a few weeks it just sounds ok? Your ears have gotten used to it. Now, after a couple weeks of compromised soundstage, when you finally kick the tree out to the curb where it belongs, it'll be like hearing your system anew again!

See, every cloud has a silver lining.

Yes, I hate Christmas trees. For different reasons though. Our tree is in the foyer so it's not blocking my speakers in the living room, but they're such a PITA to put up and take down, and decorate. It doesn't help that ours is 8 feet high. It's like I'm wasting a day putting it up, and wasting another taking it down. Net result, two wasted days for no net benefit.

Yeah, I have wedding veils that I put over my speakers once a year. Then I take them off, and post everywhere I can that, "wow, it was just like having a veil lifted!"

My "serious problem" is about to be resolved. The tree comes down in a few hours and this week, I'm doing a serious re-vamping of my living room sound system. Currently pulling a duty for which they are not designed, my Edirol MA-20D near-field active monitors will be returned to their original duty as computer speakers for my office (they've been the living room "sound system" for a couple of years--until I trusted my youngest son enough not to wreck better gear--that moment has now arrived).

In lieu of the tree, my trusty Integra DTR 6.4 (having been the heart of my man-cave for almost eight years) will go into service as the living room receiver in 2 channel (likely 2.1 channel down the road) mode, coupled with my new pair of PSB Imagine B speakers (which have spent the last 10 days in their box, awaiting their installation). The jump up in sound quality in the living room will be quite substantial.

In the cave goes a new in box RX-A1000 receiver from Yamaha (got an excellent deal as it is last year's model). I will be able to make all my HDMI gear fully functional and considerably simplify my hookup and remote situations (with all the extra switchboxes and converters now in play, even the best universal remote would short circuit, I think--as it is, I'm at 11 remotes and I'm the only one who has even the faintest idea how to operate the cave. Not entirely a bad thing come to think of it.).

It may take me a few weeks to get everything dialed-in, as I have to do some minor excavating to hook up the Yamaha receiver to the router for full functionality, but 2012 should be a great year for audio chez moi.

Tree is always up until "les rois" or the closest Sunday after. It's an old family tradition.

The albums are actually Rock Operas, telling stories through music, both instrumental and vocal. Some of the songs are original compositions, while others are...
