Major Richard Winters

I know many of you have seen the series Band Of Brothers which tells the story of Easy Company, 101st Airborne in the European campaign during World War II.

I thought you would want to know that Major Richard "Dick" Winters, commander of Easy Company has passed away. Another of the greatest generation has gone. Rest in peace sir.

As a military officer, I was inspired by Dick Winters' portrayal in the film, all the way from the beginning, starting in his Easy Company basic training.

Interestingly Damian Lewis who plays Dick Winters is an Englishman. I thought his performance was excellent. I didn't detect any hint of an English accent, which would have destroyed his credibility.
