Just a snippet that I spotted today:
"Sony was hit with another round of bad news today (Tuesday) when Microsoft and Intel decided to support the Toshiba-developed HD DVD high-definition DVD format, thereby tipping the scales against Sony's Blu-ray DVD system. The six major film studios are divided evenly between the two formats. However, Microsoft, while saying that the next generation of its Windows operating system will be designed to work with HD DVD, decided not to integrate the format in its upcoming Xbox 360 videogame console, which will use a standard DVD system. The next generation of Sony's PlayStation, due to hit the market next year, will play Blu-ray. Most analysts concurred that while the "Wintel" decision to back HD DVD was a set-back for Sony's Blu-ray, it was by no means a knock-out blow."
Even though it's unfortunate that this HD DVD format war is split, I'm glad that Sony doesn't have a monopoly on the new format (and threfore pre-recorded HD movies).
