The local Walmart is selling the Magnavox Blu-ray player for $98 Canadian. Don't know how good the Maggie is but it sure is nice to see low prices like this for a Blu-ray player.

Amazon has the Panny BD60 for $120-$130 depending on when you look. I think I'd rather pay the $20-$30 more for what is really one of the better players out there. It's going to be my Dad's gift this year since he finally entered the HD world with a Panny P50X1.Santino

Pretty amazing how the prices have come down. But no real surprise.
I think I'll still be picking up a PS3 to do my BR playing and other playing.

Noticed in the flyers this AM that Future Shop has the Samsung BDP1600 player for $99. as a Boxing Day special. Another local electronic & furniture store has a Sony for $99. Some good buys out there for anyone who needs a second player or just getting into the game.Comment

I was reading quite a bit about this player and comments from owners. Seems that for a low priced machine, it is performing well and playing everything thrown at it without glitches. On the back of this Jeff Beck Bluray disc "Live at Ronnie Scotts" it lists the audio format as LPCM stereo, Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS HD Master Audio.

I am wondering if from my blu-ray player, connect the HDMI directly to the television..... or thru the receiver that I am ONLY using as a preamp then out from the receiver to the television?

I have been reading many different threads on blu-ray players and audio connections. I consider myself an avid fan of HT, with slightly better than novice understanding of the numerous options for connections, trouble shooting, etc. However, this audio connection is somewhat confusing.

I'm looking for a decent upconverting player to replace my RDV-1060. Can be a bluray player, but doesnt have to. I don't own one single bluray DVD yet :P . I do own a huge DVD collection though, so I want the best upconverting 1080p 24fps player there is, max $700. thanks....
