    Gear that changed your HT?

Is there any single peice of HT gear that really changed your HT? For me its the Pronto by a mile. You see there have been a number of choices that I've made since getting the pronto that I might not have made had I not had the pronto so its becoming integral to the system. One such example is that way back in the dark ages (like 4 year ago) I had a single disc CD player that I wanted to replace with a multi disc model. I looked at the mega changers at the time but they looked cumbersome to use and accessing a single disc seemed a daunting task so I ended up with a 5 disc changer. Skip forward a year or two and I buy the pronto and everything starts to change. With the pronto and its abilites the mega changer now seemed like a great idea so off went the old 5 disc unit to be replaced with a 300 disc model...I've now got one click access to any CD in my collection and can run random modes all day long...my own personal radio station! Before the pronto I used to always get calls from my wife or visitors asking why they could hear the sound but weren't getting a picture etc now that they simply need to click "watch DVD" and it magially does everything for them I seldom get calls now. Having a good universal remote also changes the gear I've bought since I would never have bought the Sony TA-E9000ES if I had to rely on its remote. Its also made me rethink items that don't offer discrete codes so my next TV might not be a Toshiba if they don't get their act together.

At first I was going to say nothing steered my HT decisions but when I got to thinking on it I'd have to say my purchase of the Adcom GTP-450. This two channel pre dictated how hence what pro I would use and thus my whole HT experience.

Everything else just kind of filled any needs I had.

I have always (well, since high school, anyway) :>) been interested in component hifi/stereo/whatever sound for music, so the round of upgrades that included the Magnepan MG 3.6 speakers (which bring me closest to being with musicians in their performing space of any speakers in my experience when properly set up and powered) and the incomparable BEL (Brown Electronics Lab) 1001 Mk V amp which powers them incomparably :>) and the Integra Research RDC-7 pre/pro about which I have already waxed eloquent in another section of the Guide :>) are all just logical extensions of my quest for exquisite sound.

However, the component that changed my HT from a very nice TV with a killer sound system into a true theater in my home was the Sony VPL-W400Q LCD projector (along with a DaLite 16:9 ten foot diagonal High Power screen). Until getting the projector, I was enjoying movies at home, but not really getting a full theater experience. Now I am.

Yeah. Burke, same here with the Sony VPL 400 and in my case a 92" X 52" Da-Lite screen.

For HT it would have to be the Widescreen Toshiba 65H81.
          For Audio, B&W Nautilus 802's.....................
Can someone here please convince me to go for a full blown
Front Projector/Screen system? I know it's bigger, but is it better?
Does it have different aspect ratios that I should have?
          Etc, Etc, Etc?

Ok, for starters, I wasn't really in the market for this piece when I bought it. I just went harmlessly to a private sale at a local A/V store, NOW Audio Video. While browsing at the store, I happened to see the DV-07, and it was a new product. The beauty of it, with the blue light in it, was...

it seems we often get wrapped up in our gear, planned upgrades, speaker positioning, DTS vs DD, 7.1 and the whole spectrum of wonderful techie stuff and sometimes stop to actually listen to the music. I don't know about you guys but its been a while since I've actually listened to an entire song without...

High End CD/DVD Mega Multidisc Changer
            by Angioguy
I've scoured the net in search of a high end cd mega multichanger/jukebox; something on the order of >400 cd/dvd's. Right now I have the Sony CDP-CX455 400 disc changer, which has performed well for me for the last few years, but it's starting to crap out on me, and I think it's time for an upgrade....

Mega changers for dummies part 2
            by Andrew Pratt
Ok now that we've all got 300 and 400 plus CD changers its time to revisit how we go about interfacing with the beasts. Previously my personal favorite method involved using a neat excel spread sheet that allowed me to enter in my CD names and it would spit out a file that can be converted into a CCF...
