Denon AVR-5803A Receiver Experience?: Is It Still a Decent Choice?

I like this unit. If I could find a mint one for $1,800 I would probably bite.

    Any user experience?

    Other comments?

    Thanks

The 5803 is a sweet unit. Have you checked out the 4806? It has a lot more cool stuff added to it. Like Sat Radio and a few other things. Personally if I was going to spend 1800 I would try and save up and get the 4806 instead of the 5803. I think the few months wait to save the extra loot to get the 4806 would be well worth it. That is just my personal oppinion though.

      Thanks Snap.

How much can you get a 4806 for from an authorized dealer?

The 4306 is coming as well in a few months. They just announced it. Audioholics has a comparison chart up so you could see what features you'd be giving up to get to that price. The MSRP will be $1999.

          Spyboy,
I actually hit the wrong number in my post. ops: Like Shane pointed out the 4306 not the 4806 is what I was meaning to say. There is a huge jump from $1999 MSRP of the 4306 and the $3500 of the 4806. ops: Sorry for the mistake. ops: Crutchfield sells the 4806 for 3400 if I am not mistaken. E

Once again, Thanks Shane for posting the 4306, When I first read it, it made me take a look at my post and realize the error. The 4806 is a cool unit though. :T
Here is what Shae was talking about.

          http://www.audioholics.com/news/edit...06receiver.php

          Edited:
Put the correct MSPR stuff down. Had $2200 for the 4306 instead of what it is $1999 and Put another brand that is not compairable as far as price and features. so I deleted it.

To be honest the 4306 is crazy priced. The same feature set(different EQ) can be had for $400 less from Pioneer Elite. Now if the 3806 had the upconversion to HDMI feature, we might have something.

Shane, you mean 4306 overpriced? Especially compare to Elite?

Yes. I don't see anything special that the 4306 is offering that won't be included on the new Elites except for the Audyssey EQxt. Denon made a major misstep IMHO in not including the upconversion on the 3806. That or they should have lowered the price of the 4306. I don't see how they can justify pricing it $700 more than the 3806. $400 more sure, $700 no way.

Shane I was thinking the same thing till I check out the Pioneer website. That is why I removed the compairison. It does not have XM radio analog to HDMI, and 30 watts a chanel more power, and a few others things. You are talking the Pioneer Elite 5 model right?? I did not think that it had all the stuff that the 4306 does? That is why I removed it, after I posted it. I thought the 4306 was better. May be I am not thinking the same unit you are??

Features aside...how do the two models compare in fidelity?? Has anyone completed an A to B demo?

                      Snap,
Here are the specs on the new elites. They have XM ready, analog to HDMI and plenty of power.

If the 56txi is any indication, it will have PLENTY of power. The negative for the Pioneer for me was the lack of digital ins which was fixed here.

I see what you are talking about now Shane. I was looking at the Pioneer Website and Current AV Receivers. The VSX-56TXi

After looking at what you showed, that Elite does look like a sweet unit. :T

Anyone using this receiver yet?? I haven't been able to audition this yet but am eyeballing it. Was planning on the 3805 which I've installled dozens of and really like but the specs on the 4806 I've seen are impressive. Unfortuneately we don't display the 4806 yet and if we did I don't trust our...

I sealed the deal on a 5803 today. All paid for. March 11th arrival at the Tweeter i deal with. Pioneer's yanking my guy's chain. I'm done waiting on a 49TX. That order has been cancelled. I'm sure i'd be happy with either one but, the 5803 gets the nod now. Good idea Trev?

Hi - I've trumbled through most of the threads here - amazing stuff!

I'm in the middle of a wall reconstruction project (for a 43' Pioneer Elite plasma - to be hung on the wall, all wiring will be in wall) and I've become thoroughly confused along the way while researching the rest of...

What would you do if you had to decide between a Rotel 1067 AVR versus the Denon 4806 that I could get at around the same price as the Rotel?

Take into consideration for me sonics is the absolute, especially two channel audio. Having HDMI is not that important.
