    Question on component cables

Maybe this is the wrong forum, but I'm curious about something.

I pre-wired my house when it was built 10 years ago with double conductor high-quality RG6U coax, including a ceiling box in the designated HT. I'm in the process of installing a projector. I was bemoaning the fact that my prewiring was obsolete and was pricing component cables, and just for the heck of it, I compared the specs of the RG6U and good-quality (Monster) component cables.

The impedence, capacitance and attenuation were almost exactly the same. I'm trying to imagine what other factors could have a noticeable effect in a relatively short (18-foot) run.

It can't be this cheap and easy. Where am I going wrong?

Quality component cables are made from 75-ohm coax with electrical specs similar to RG59 or RG6. Of course, the physical specs are likely different--component video cables usually have a stranded core and is more flexible than the RG6 you run inside the walls. But that doesn't matter for in-wall use. If you already have three (or five for RGBHV) runs of coax to your ceiling box, just pop on whatever connectors you need and you're good to go.

      Another question on component connections

My new projector has one set of 3 RCA inputs labeled Y, C(subB) and C(sub R).

It has a set of 5 BNC inputs labeled GBRHV of which the first three also are labeled Y, P(subB) and P(subR).

The user's manual says to use the C inputs for connecting to DVD players. I've done that; works fine.

I've ignored the P inputs, assuming they were for a computer input, especially since the package included a VGA-to-RGBHV cable. However, the package also included three RCA-to-BNC adaptors, and in the user's manual it says to use the P terminals for connecting "progressive components (DTV Y/Pb/Pr)."

The reason I'm confused is that the component output terminals on all my sources -- four DVD players and a Dish HD receiver -- are labeled P, not C.

What's the difference, if any, in the way the projector handles the YBR signals it gets from the P and C inputs? And is there a reason they do it this way, other than to confuse me?

HD vs. 480i. That's the difference. Your set which is either/or on the three connectors in the RGBHV set is intended for HD level component signals- 480P, 720P, 1080i. Your other ones are intended for 480i component signals, as would come from your 480i DVD player outputs, and Dish receiver. The different nomenclautre is for identification, so one will know that they're HD capable component inputs. 480i MAY also work on those inputs (for some sets they do), but most likely not.

OK, it's starting to filter through

The Dish HD receiver gives me three output options: 1080i, 720p and 480p. But the regular Dish PVR receiver only gives me 480i, right?

          Experimentation is the only answer.

My job and honeydo list will just have to wait. :W

Help. Terminating beldin coax for component cables
            by silvercans
I've been searching for quite some time but haven't found any affordable solution for creating component cables from beldin 1694A and Canare RCAP-C53. Does anyone have suggestions, or know a cheap solution? If not, can I just use solder connectors (I'm proficient at soldering)

            RDC-7 OSD thru Component Outs?

My current TV does not have component inputs. If I buy a new display that I can connect to my RDC-7 using component cables, will I be able to view the RDC-7's onscreen display?

Will I have to connect another composite video cable to the monitor 1 output?
