    the worst possible luck

I can't believe my luck over the past week w/ my recent audio purchases.

I was pumped last Sunday as I unboxed my new Rotel RB-1080 and waited for delivery of my new HSU sub. That's about the time that my luck ran out...

I mentioned this in the rotel forum, but the RB-1080 I bought had a dead left channel when I hooked it up for the first time. I had to send it back. The dealer believes it was damaged during shipment. Either way, that was a complete pain in the neck b/c my dealer is over an hour drive away. The dealer ordered a new amp and I'm waiting until this weekend to pick it up.

Then, just yesterday the HSU amp arrived. I took my time and opened the box, flipped the sub over to install the feet/spikes and found a DENT 8O in the subwoofer cone!!!!! :M You've got to be kidding me, right? This comes after screwing around w/ FedEx for 4 days to get them to deliver it to the correct address. I called HSU and sent them pics, so we'll see what happens. The box itself was in good condition, so who knows what happend to the woofer.

Well, that's my sad story. I was really excited to get all this new gear hooked up, but now I must wait and deal w/ return shipments, tech support, blah, blah, blah.

Do you think someone/something is trying to tell me I shouldn't have bought the new equipment?

silver lining - the new amp is in, the dealer tested it and it works. So I got that going for me.

Ouch... where is the dent in the HSU? If it's in the dust cap, it won't affect the sound. If it's in the cone itself, well then you may have a problem. Can you post a pic?

Of course, even if it's the dust cap, you no doubt want your sub to be perfect...

Thanks for the sympathy guys. This string of bad luck is odd b/c I usually always have decent luck w/ things that I buy. Rarely do I have to return something due to a defect, problem, etc.

The dent is in the dust cap, so I guess it's possible that the sub would still play well. However, I'm worried that other things may be wrong if the dust cap is dented and I'd always have the picture of the dent in the back of my head. My guess is it was accidently dented as they were putting it in the box. I really would like an unmolested sub, so I'll just see what HSU says.

I'll try and post a pic of the dent tonight.

Depending on the severity of the dent, you might be able to pull it out. Try a piece of tape, or carefully using a vacuum cleaner to pull the dent out. It may work or it may not, but it's worth a try. If it works, you won't have to send your sub back.

Yes the vacuum cleaner trick works....I should know, having small curious kids

Problem is that (in my experience) it can crease the cap, so be warned, to do it gently. I'd probably try the vaccum cleaner before tape because you can (usually) vary the suction with the vacuum.

FWIW 9.9/10 dust cap dents do nothing to the speaker or the sound. You do have to wonder what dented it though, and, if it's brand new I personally wouldn't settle for less than perfect when it's your hard earned cash.
Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Maybe you can pull the driver out at their request, and avoid sendingi the whole sub back, and just send the driver?

                update

Just got off the phone w/ HSU. They are going to send me a replacement woofer, so I can take out the dented woofer and put in the new one. Here is to hoping the new woofer will arrive unmolested!

I just got home from picking up my Wharfedale Evolution 10 speakers (in glossy piano black), which will be used as rear speakers in my Home theater; matched up with the Wharfedale Opus 2. Which by the way still haven't arrived and probably won't for another month or so.

                  Dent in my tweeter
                  by sunggipark
Okay, so I'm moving my 601 s3 and i accidently press into the tweeter putting a small dent into it - a little smaller than a dime.

I used some tape and pulled the dent out but now there's a round crease line where the dent was.

Does this affect the tweeter's performance?...

                  HSU STF-2 vs DIY
                  by nayr
I was rather set on a B&W ASW-600 to go with my 601 speakers, but after going down to demo one I was less then impressed. My friend's cheaper HSU STF-2 sounds better IMO.

So after looking around a while and stumbling upon some peoples home-built subwoofers, I got it in my head to...

Spike Kit on 802s dent hardwood?
                  by scanido
Currently I've got my 802 Diamonds on spare pieces of carpet as I am afraid of the standard rollers denting my oak hardwood floors. So far the temporary arrangement has worked well as i can easily re-position the speakers.

I'm now at the point where i found a good permanent position...
