    Component connection question

I'm shopping for AV receivers and noted there is a difference between the HDTV ready models as far as the frequency bands provided for component connections. What is required? Some are up to 30mhz others 50 and beyond.

Anyone know anything about the Harman Kardon dpr 1001?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Hi Phil, welcome to The Guide! :welcome:

Sorry, I can't help with the HK question. I'm not familiar with that unit.

IIRC, (and that's a big "if" this early in the morning) the bandwidth requirement for full HD transmission is 32MHz, so stay away from the receivers with 30MHz connections. Are any of you poobahs out there? Jon? Thomas?

To be safe ,I'd say try for above 50, anything over that is just gravy

Here's Jon and my suggestion. Unfortunately it won't be appreciated..

Buy a dedicated switcher for video signals. Keep the video signals out of devices that are handling audio signals.

There are hundreds of good video switchers. Frequently one can buy studio quality switchers (think Extron) for pennies on the dollar on the used market.

        Here are some examples.

Also look on ebay under "video switches and routers"

While I agree with you, heck I'll even say that unless going through a scaler, your video connections shouldn't deviate at all from the source/display. But I don't think that's what he was asking :B

And Thomas, your thoughts are always appreciated :T

            Thanks

Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun tonite and bought a refurbished HK unit. We'll see if the limited bandwidth is a problem! I'm hoping 30mhz is enough to squeeze by, but I do note that their latest model is up to 100mhz.
