Well, I think the key words there are "reasonably priced". You may have listed the only ones in that category, for all I know.

Used Lexicon MC-8B or MC-12B would be ideal. Now finding it is the problem possibly. Not sure what a used one would go for either.

Rotels do not have balanced outs.

Bryston just barely fits your budget... depending on where you buy.

Occasionally used Brystons show up on Audiogon.

While "reasonably priced" means different things to different people depending on their budgets, you might want to check out the Integra Research RDC-7 RDC-7 INfo and the Integra DTC-9.4 DTC-9.4 Info. Both have balanced outputs and both are 7.1-capable. The price on the RDC-7 is due to drop soon since its successor (the RDC-7.1) has been announced. The DTC-9.4 streets for about $2,000 and has performance and features that make it competitive with the other named "budget high end" units.

            Good luck -

You should know that nearly all of the balanced outputs on pre/pro's are not fully balanced but just "balanced-like" outputs. So some of the major benefits that you get with balanced outputs on studio equipment is not there.

"Vincent" also has pre/pro that has balanced outputs. This one is also reasonably priced.

Any links to "Vincent"? Can't seem to find anything online...........

Integra looks interesting. Didn't even think of them.

Its a Chinese brand of hifi and surround. They make good stuff for reasonable prices. Don't know their website and got no idea if they are imported in the USA.

Anyway, don't focus on the balanced connections. Better just get the one that sounds the best. There is hardly any reason to by default only go for the balanced one.

Extra specially unless all the amps you already have or plan to buy are balanced too.

Since Tominizer listed "balanced outputs" as one of three things he was looking for in particular, it seemed appropriate to mention that the units I named have that feature. :>) But by following the provided links, it should be evident that both the RDC-7 and the DTC-9.4 offer far more features than that. I do not use the balanced outputs on my RDC-7 and it sounds sensational anyway.

The best test of suitability to purpose, of course, is to try out a unit in ones own system (with agreed upon return privileges with the dealer or private party you are buying from) and see if it performs the way you expect (or better). If it does, and the price is right, it’s a keeper. Otherwise, it goes back and something else takes its place.

                        Good luck -
