Reviews on LG DV7832 w/ DVI?

Anyone have any reviews on the LG DV7832, a DVD player that upconverts to 720p and 1080i through BOTH DVI and component connections?

    Features:
    1080i Video Output Capability
    CDiª Video Processing Chip
    Progressive Scan Output
    Digital Audio Output DTS/Dolby Digital
    MP3 Decoding
    JPEG Viewer
Variable Speed Smooth Scan Forward/Reverse (2x/4x/16x/100x)
    Zoom - 6-Step Moveable (1.5x up to 4x)
    Aspect Ratios - 4:3/16:9/Panscan
    Parental Control
    Plays DVD-Video, CD-Audio, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, WMA, Kodak CD, JPEG, VCD, SVCD, MP3

It has the Faroudja chip for upconversion. This unit has both coaxial and optical outs, S-video out and composite video out.

The manual describes that the DVI output is compliant with HDCP specifications. I understand from another forum that the manual refers to the connection as DVI-D.

CAD$299 (~US$225) at the 2001 Audio Video chain stores which are located in Ontario.

Better act fast, as the DVD licensing organization finds out about these 1080i machines, they are doing their best to shut them down. The studios are large proponents of these moves. They licensed DVD only for 480p, not 1080i or 720p.

That's what DVI and HDMI are about, content management in anticipation of higher res DVD formats., IMO.

Here's a quote from a member at another forum who has just bought the LG player....the first answer were based upon widespread concerns with respect to copy protected DVDs playing at higher rezs:

              Okay:

I've tried about 40 discs and all output 1080i through component.

              Also:

No CUE on the Toy Story menu
passes blacker than black PLUGE with VE
No ringing or EE I could see
layer change is about 1 sec or so

I will do more tests tomorrow...
Looks like a promising DVD player....might have to hunt around town to see if they can special order it in for me.

The owner's manual can be found here http://ca.lgservice.com/ Do a search for a dvd player called dv7832nxc

              Trev,

There is talk at the Canadian forums that this LG player can be ordered at any LG Canada retailer. There is a dealer locator here http://lg.ca/

              Lex,

That Liteon player didn't last long on the shelves. This could soon happen to this LG player.
