    Quick speaker height question...

    I'm looking into KEF's Q series Q3s.

I've been told by sales reps that they are floor standers but they are only 30.7 inches tall. I figure that puts the tweeter at about 26-27 inches off the floor.

Isn't that too low? I was under the impression that sitting ear level is where you want tweeters.

I'll eventually have to go check them out but I wanted to run this by everyone.

    thanks

    I understand your concern, Ryan.

Generally, I find most systems sound best when the tweeter/midrange axis is at roughly ear level. I've even made stands for folks in the past to raise some big B&W speakers so that they met this criteria. This also helped reduce floor bounce comb filtering in the measured response.

But, this is all speculation. I'd suggest listening to them, with seating arrangements like what you think you'd want to use. See how they work- maybe they came up with some tricks to improve the performance.

I have my M8 "bookshelf" on 24" high stands, and they sound pretty good that way, with the tweeter about 36-38" off the floor- but they sound even better placed on my X1 bass bins, which are taller still. I think part of it is reducing the floor interaction.

    Regards,

    Jon

I'll second the opinion on having the tweeters at or slightly above your ear height when sitting in the position you would normally sit.

In my case, it is half-ways reclined in my La-Z-Boy chair.

I've tried them higher and lower, and there is a discernible difference.
