    Quick speaker height question...

    I'm looking into KEF's Q series Q3s.

I've been told by sales reps that they are floor standers but they are only 30.7 inches tall. I figure that puts the tweeter at about 26-27 inches off the floor.

Isn't that too low? I was under the impression that sitting ear level is where you want tweeters.

I'll eventually have to go check them out but I wanted to run this by everyone.

    thanks

    I understand your concern, Ryan.

Generally, I find most systems sound best when the tweeter/midrange axis is at roughly ear level. I've even made stands for folks in the past to raise some big B&W speakers so that they met this criteria. This also helped reduce floor bounce comb filtering in the measured response.

But, this is all speculation. I'd suggest listening to them, with seating arrangements like what you think you'd want to use. See how they work- maybe they came up with some tricks to improve the performance.

I have my M8 "bookshelf" on 24" high stands, and they sound pretty good that way, with the tweeter about 36-38" off the floor- but they sound even better placed on my X1 bass bins, which are taller still. I think part of it is reducing the floor interaction.

    Regards,

    Jon

I'll second the opinion on having the tweeters at or slightly above your ear height when sitting in the position you would normally sit.

In my case, it is half-ways reclined in my La-Z-Boy chair.

I've tried them higher and lower, and there is a discernible difference.

        Surround setup with 803D
        by Maverick71
Having just purchased a pair of 803D's, I am now starting from scratch the whole 5.1 setup
For the center channel I'll be using the HTM4S for now because the HTM3S is too big (and heavy) for the setup and I'll consider it when I redecorate the room or have a dedicated A/V room. I know voicing...

CTC Distance: confusion with dual drivers
        by dlneubec
I'm trying to plan for my first 3way design and am concerned about CTC distance and the crossover points that this suggests.

In my case I'm doing an hybrid omnidirectional. It may have two woofers, firing up and down at each other and two mids firing similarly. The tweeter will be front...

Hey guys, this is the first project I've done, a nearfield set of computer speakers, and I thought I would share the journey they took. If you want, just skip past all my BS and the project is below.

I bought some RS100's when they were on sale to play around with, thinking I would make...

        Height of Speakers?????
        by saurabh
I am confused in the height of speakers. I know that the height of speakers should match the ear levels of the listeners, but I am confused about center speaker, I can either place it on top of TV (which becomes slightly above ear levels, above the head to be precise) or below the TV(in the rack) (which...
