    Denon 3801

I owned this unit for about 5 days. I sent it back because it didn't have the warm sound that the 3300 has. So, despite the possible heat problem, I kept the 3300. (Had to send the first one back. Talk about frying eggs!!!)

    Anyway, my question is this:

There is a debate as to whether the 3801 has a fan. I know the 3300 does. If I look into the back slots of my 3300, where the air exhausts, I can see the ribbed heat sink and the fan housing.

When I looked into the 3801, the heat sinks we slightly modified, and there was a fan housing.

Anyone have a 3801 that would open it and let us know for sure, or has heard the fan turn on?

I own a 3801. I don't care to open it up until I really have to, but I seem to recall reading a post on this fan issue somewhere at another site, and Denon confirmed there is a fan. I have never heard it run in my unit, but the receiver doesn't seem to run all that hot compared to the Yammy 3090 I used to use in my HT.

I think the modified heat sinks made a huge difference in the heat control of the 3801, so that the fan doesn't have to come on for anything but the hardest driven 5.1 movies!!!

        Heat Sink

Heat sinks are components or structures used to dissipate heat generated by the voice coil during operation. Loudspeaker drivers, particularly high-power drivers, can generate significant heat due to electrical resistance and mechanical losses. Heat sinks help to transfer this heat away from the voice coil and other sensitive components, preventing overheating and potential damage. The primary function of a heat sink is to increase the surface area available for heat dissipation....

The "Pile" or How to Stack and Not Get Stuck
        by Karma
        HI All,
Ordinarily I would not recommend stacking equipment. I can't tell you how many times I have lectured my customers against such practices. I have strong opinions against stacking.

That said, my 6 month old bedroom HT system has stacked equipment and it works very well. The...

        NC500 dual mono's in 1 case
        by dar47
I have need of a better 2 channel amp to plug the last hole in my down stairs setup. My current XPA-2 does double duty for music and theater feeding my Ardents but it's holding them back. Back when Ben was building his NC400's he showed me these Tenor amps and I love the look of them. The amp case has...

        Digital Amplifers vs Analog Amplifiers
        by Bing Fung
As digital amplifiers become more main stream are they soon going to replace the brutish heat sinks, huge power supply and capacitors required in an analog amplifier?

Digital amplifiers are said to offer more efficent power use and management because they do not have to supply power over...
