Feedback when sub cable is touched...

Last night right before bed, I dropped a piece of paper behind my SVS sub. When I reached behind the sub to pick it up, I touched the RCA cable connected to my sub and thought it was about to blow up. It was the loudest feedback I have ever heard. The sub cable is a 35' Monoprice Premium RCA cable rated for in-wall installation.

I also have a 6' sub cable going from my Denon Sub Out to the wall. There is no feedback when I touch that one.

Therefore, it is isolated to just that cable segment.

Any thoughts on my issue? Is it a faulty cable? Is this bad for my sub?

It's not good for your sub. It could be a faulty cable or possibly the input jack on the sub. Swap out the cable and test it again. If it happens again then it's not the cable.

Subs are especially susceptible to getting feedback from the electric energy of the human body, if the inner conductor of the low-voltage cable is touched. However, there should NOT be any interaction going on if the outer jacket of the cable is touched or moved. If you happen to touch the plug head, with it seated in the plug, that could cause interference. But not the cable itself.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
