    Receiver used as preamp question

    Hello,

I just acquired a multi-channel amplifier in my quest to move from a receiver-based home theater to a pre/pro/amp based system. I do not yet have a pre/pro but wonder if it is safe to use my receiver as a preamp (with no speaker load on the receiver) and if the various surround modes will still function in such a configuration.

    Receiver- Denon AVR-1907
    Amp: Rotel RB 985

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

You should have no problems using your receiver as a pre/pro.

You should have access to all surround modes.

    Enjoy!

Yes, I have a HDMI 1.3 receiver that I use as an outboard HDMI decoder pre/pro, that then sends multichannel analog audio out to my high-end pre/pro.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Ditto here. I also use an AVR as pre/pro with no load connected.
