Surround speakers don't need a lot of bass output?

Hey gang! Im trying to design everything, I realize the center and FL/FR will be playing plenty of low end, but what about the surrounds? I have not owned a nice enough surround sound to experience anything where the rears require heavy low end extension (like 60-120Hz range).

    Any thoughts on this?

Well there are more and more movies including LFE in the surrounds as well as the rest of the speakers. But it's not an absolute must. If you are going to cross all your speakers to a sub at 80hz then design the speakers that way.

Basically, I am debating porting the boxes to the 4 surrounds, simply... a sealed box would be smaller and easier to work with. The front 3 will be ported. Xover point will likely be 60Hz... WinISD says I should get an F3 of 42Hzish on the ported and 69Hzish on the sealed. Just debating on if its worth porting the rears really.

New guy, new build, LOTS of questions.

I'm highly impressed with the level of detail and help provided by the crew here. I was referred to this site by Mark Seaton while attempting to get some help with a possible build. I can see why he sent me here. I should have probably come here just due to the fact that ThomasW is part of the site....

          Recommendations for rear surround options
          by Unclejunebug
I recently built some Swope MTM's (which I love) as main LR's for my home theater and I was originally planning on building the center and rear surrounds to round out the set. I'm still planning on the center but now, because of how my living room is setup, I'm wondering what the best course of action...

          805S or SCMS for surrounds
          by Danielf
          Hi,

I have finally decided to go with a pair of 803s and a HTM3s. They will be used 70% for HT and 30% for 2-channel music. I am not sure what to choose for surround speakers... and need some recommendations. I am debating between 805s and SCMs since that is what fits my budget. My problem...

18W/8531G00 sealed vs ported, any experience?
          by gmed
Has anyone compared the 18W/8531G00 in sealed vs ported? Which do you prefer? Im debating whether I should have them ported vs sealed with a sub?
