HK870 left channel out - worth fixing?

This amp rocked when I bought it...drove my B&W M804 far better than my A/V receiver rated at the same WPC.

I want to give it to my son, power my rears, or use it in a 2 channel system, but it'll cost roughly $200 to fix. Is this throwing good money after bad for such an old power amp?

    Thanks.

IMO its worth fixing but by a DIYer whose cost will be less. Its a nice old amp but $200 is a lot when you could add a few more dollars and buy something else on the used market like a Denon POA 1500 or Kenwood Basic M2/M2A (which at 220WPC is double the power of the HK), and sell the HK as a fixer-upper. At least you will get something for it.

      Thanks Glen,

So what I gather is the amp is worth fixing (i.e. will perform well when fixed) for the right price, and $200 is too much of a premium.

Don't know any local DIY types, so I'll look into selling it as a fixer-upper, and apply funds gained towards a new amp.

        B&W 703 vs older 804
        by Trevor
Just wondering if it would be worth 200.00 dollars to upgrade to a one year old pair of 804. I am waiting for my local dealer to get in a used set of 703 to upgrade from my 604 s3. I want to know if it would be worth the upgrade for the old 804. I cannot listen to the old 804 since the dealer no...

Goldmund Job 200 Amp for HTM1
        by gostan
My weak-link Rotel 1075 powering my HTM1 center speaker is going to face a comparison test this weekend. My dealer loaned me a Goldmund Job 200 monoblock amplifier to test in place of the Rotel 1075. It is a tiny light box of 15 cm x 25 cm x 5 cm running at 200W. No lights, dials or adjustments....

BAMTM project & what to do for a sub?
        by bobhowell
I want to build an 8" sub with the TB 1363SB or another of similar quality using a Dayton 100-200 amp plate amp. It will be used for music along with a new build of Zaph's BAMTM in a mid size room. Small is imp for WAF.

Does anyone know of plans for such?

        WAF may shift...

        B&W and Denon
        by Mark-n-b
Has anyone here ever run B&W speakers with Denon POA amplifiers (not AVRs or AVCs)? I was wondering what this would sound like.
An example would be the POA-S1 or POA-8000
        Cheers

Denon vs. classe & rotel. My opinion
        by crytklmass
I currently have B&W802d's for fronts, HTM2d for center and SCM1's for rears. I recently owned the Rotel 1090, for fronts, Rotel 1095 for center and rears. After selling my Rotel, my local rep tried talking me into classe ssp800 and classe 400mono and classe 5200 for my remaining speaker. I found...
