Is it cheaper to buy in Japan? Marantz SR8002

Hi Folks,

I have decided to buy a Marantz 8002 receiver for my system. I also have an opputunity to travel to Japan next week. I am wondering if it will cost less to buy in Japan than in US?

Any advice? Thanks in advance for your help.

Very possible, yes. However, you'll have to consider voltage, your ability to safely transport it back to the states, and the possibility of paying duty import taxes on the unit when you bring it back in. There's some loops, but yes, if you do it right, it COULD be cheaper.

I ordered my SR7002 for $1066 USD equivilant. The SR8002 is about $1505 equivilant. However, two things to keep in mind. 1) Voltage is for 100V 50/60Hz vs 120V 50/60Hz. 2) You will not be able to use it to listen to the radio in the US (different frequencies).

The manual is in Japanese even though the menus are in English. I've already contacted Marantz directly to find out about the differences between the US and Japanese one. Oh, and it's in gold copper color only.
