    12v trigger power strip

I have some cooling fans that I'd like to turn on when I turn on my pre/pro.

Do any of you know of a power strip that can turn power to its outlets on by using a 12v trigger?

    Thanks in advance.

Interesting idea ..... I've never seen a powerstrip with a 12v trigger though.

For cooling, I used a computer case fan (12v fan) and hooked it directly to my receiver's 12v trigger. It works great!

Niles has one, plus several other multi-room system companies. Of course they're not cheap as they are designed to switch amps and such.

If you just want to switch fans, a 110v relay behind a regular outlet in a surface mount box will work fine and cost you under $15.

For reference purposes I'll post a 'more than you need' answer

Starting at the top, Clear Blue Audio Video's configurable pro switchers:

Niles Audio makes all kinds of automated switching products, like the AC-3:

On a more affordable level are the "Smart Strips" (Google "smart strip"), under $50 power strips that sense current in one of the outlets to turn on the others.
The problem with this approach is that you'd have to plug your pre-pro into this power strip -- depends on the level of equipment you have if that might bother you.

One similar AC triggered power strip used to be sold by Sears -- don't try it. It's intended use is to turn on a shop vac when you turn on a table saw, etc. -- it expects a high current surge and may not trigger with low-draw AV equipment.

Finally, if your 12V trigger source provides a constant current when the unit is on, all you really need is a SPST relay with 120V rated contacts and a 12V coil. Note that the coil will draw current constantly so check the coil rating against your available trigger current. Google +"120V relay" +"12V coil" -- here's one that draws 33mA and costs 99 cents:

Huh... yeah, all the 12v trigger sort of equipment like that, that I know of, costs big $$$. I have a Universal Remote MSC-400 that can do that, (actually two of them) and it's decent $$$.

Using 12v trigger to run accessory fans
            by cmr15
I've got a 1067 which runs rather hot, and I'm aware that that's the norm. I'm about to place it in a custom wall unit and need a little info regarding the use of fans and a 12v trigger.

What I'd like to do is use 2 accessory computer fans to circulate the air. One would pull in air...

            Hi All,

I now have the Rotel 1075 and had a question regarding the 12v trigger. When I turn on the receiver the 1075 turns on also. I hear an audible click and all the front circuit lights turn on then fade out. Same thing happens when it shuts off. Is this normal? Also... is the...

            12v trigger question
            by benjamj
I know there have been several threads on 12v trigger issues, so I hope you will indulge me. I have an Onkyo receiver with pre-outs and 12v triggers for 2 additional zones. I am using an old 5-channel receiver to power those 2 zones, and have dedicated 2 channels per zone. The old received lacks a 12v...

            Hi all,
I recently had a new home threatre installed which consists of my current Onkyo 787 receiver acting as a processor and new Rotel RMB-1075 and RB-1070 providing the amplification for a 7.1 setup (which sounds fantasic btw). The problem being that my Onkyo doesn't have a 12 volt trigger...

            12V trigger jacks on RSX1055

            Hi!

Does anyone know how many mA the 12V trigger out jacks can deliver, and if the it can be used to power a small fan?

I have my system in a cabinet, and to ensure proper cooling, I thought I'd mount a small computer fan in the cabinet wall. So I thought it would be really...
