Rotel 1068 vs. Anthem-30?

hello all,

a friend has a lexicon mc-1 but is having some problems. he wants an anthem-30 or rotel 1068. since he's use to the lexicon sound, which one of these pre-amps would sound beter? He has paradigm ref studio 100's v2 speakers also.

anthem around $1500 pre-owned, $2700 new
or
rotel $900 pre-owned, $1400 new

I am torn here because I am a Rotel 1098 owner, which is similar to the Rotel 1068. I've heard the Paradigms with Rotel gear and it sounded very good. Also, the Rotel 1068 is a year older, I believe than the Anthem 30. I've heard the Anthem 30 is great with music. I wouldn't buy either piece new however, just ensure you have some type of return policy in writing. Are there any other pre-pros he may consider?

What type of amps is he currently using for his Paradigms? Is there anyway he can listen for himself, prior to purchase?
