Recommendations on a new system please.

Hi, I am new here and looking for advice/recommendations on a new HT system. I have not shopped for electronics in quite sometime. I have some experience with Rotel, B & W, and Pioneer Plasma. I would consider this same manufactures again but would like to get input from experienced and knowledgable members of this forum. My knowledge of the subject is currently quite poor.

For the TV, I am considering a Pioneer 50" Plasma 1920 x 1080 vs 1366 x 768. The system will be primarily used for theater and TV with minimal music listening, per se. I am looking for a 5.1 setup with rear channels in the ceiling. The fronts and center could be in-wall, on-wall or bookshelf. I would like to spend $5000 or less.

Thank you in advance for your time.

    Best regards, Scott.

I will leave recommendations on displays to those with more expertise than me, however, I do know that B&W in-wall speakers are well regarded. As for your electronics options, Rotel is still a good value/performance choice. Also, Emotiva is a newcomer receiving some V good reviews relative to their price.

      I agree with Bill...

For the display, I recommend DLP, just for the fact of it still has one of (if not the best) picture you can get. It's lighter and uses the least power out of the three (Plasma, LCD, DLP in that order for power consumption). I will warn with plasma that they do put out the heat but that shouldn't be a problem for ya.

For speakers, I'd suggest maybe the B&W 600 series for you, then just purchase the in-walls for your rears. Along those lines too Rotel makes a good Surround sound receiver (or you could go seperates). I'd also look into the Integra series and Onkyo as well.

You should be able to fall right in the $5K range without too many problems.
      Digital Audio makes me Happy.
