    Pioneer EX speakers?

I just saw this page today and find it hard to believe Pioneer can justfity the cost of 9 grand for a pair of speakers...

But who knows, they llok nice, anyone heard them or heard any comments about them?

Here's a link to HE2006 listeners' comments. Surprisingly positive!

Very interesting. I want to listen to them now. Very powerful move by Pioneer. Can Pioneer's market power along with new high end quality overthrow Bose's market hold?

I first listened to the Pioneer S1-EX at CES2006 last year. The drivers are made by TAD. They do look nice in person. However, they did not sound too good with the Bel Canto setup.

Not sure if you know but Sony Japan has produced the SS-AR1 which is in the sort of same market. Highly priced and probably wont be popular in non-Asian markets.

I glanced over a review of these in this months Stereophile. They were kindly received for their tolerance of positioning, making them a good choice if optimal room location is an issue. Not having heard them, I can make no judgement, and maybe I am a bit of a ‘brand’ snob, but $9K for Pioneer speakers? None the less, the review seems to indicate they hold their own in their price range. Maybe a great example of the adage, ‘buy with your ears, not your eyes’!

            That's their biggest problem.

I seem to remember these puppies going for large sums of money in the not too distant past-http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069695_35957,00.html

Replacement parts for some of their speakers are pricey as well-http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310070073_37118,00.html

In that price range , they may be aiming higher than Bose!

HT Mag gave them a decently favorable review in last months issue as well.

I'd have to say though that I too would get something that had a bit more brand "pinache" AND the sound quality if I was lucky enough to be shopping in that price range...

Panache? Yeah, they have that. On display at the Modern in NYC.
