No, I haven't purchased it yet, but I heard a few things about the player you may want to consider:
1) It can't play CD, CD-Rs, CD-RWs.
2) Upscales standard DVDs via HDMI.
3) Can't access all content functions and menu displays available on HD-DVD discs.
4) Touch mounted top controls easy to use, but doesn't make this component stackable.
5) HDMI v1.2 spec port instead of v1.3, which means in essence, it won't be able to pass raw Dolby True HD or DTS-HD audio to a compatible receiver.
Essentially this is a Blu-Ray player that plays HD-DVD disc (utilizing dual lasers). A nice player overall, but I wouldn't leap yet, unless you have money to burn, just my humble opinion.

I'm not touching any Blu-ray or HD players. Hopefully, it will die down like SACD & DVD Audio.June

Problem is, while you can approach or surpass hi-rez audio capability with a good CD system, you are not going to approach the HD quality of BD or HDDVD with DVD as a source, even if you've got a rack of studio Teranex equipment.
Saw a great typo elsewhere where someone referred to this player as "duel" format,

Hello,
I'm looking for a good (but not outrageously good) dvd player to hold me over until the HD/Blue laser issue is resolved. I'm willing to pay up to $500. I have an older model that glitches even on straight out of the wrapper DVD's. My other DVD player doesn't have this issue.... -
Currently I have a panasonic rp-62 which I use for DVD and music. It is hooked to my system, which is a Sherwood/Newcastle P-965, via an optical cable. I am thinking about replacing my rp-62 with the forthcoming sherwood SD-871 (http://www.sherwoodusa.com/prod_sd871.html).

Alright so now what. ... Is it worth buying a dvd player at this time or would you recommend waiting for blue ray or HDDVD..... Brand? SACD? Not relay sure where this post should go but figured I would throw it here and it can always be moved to the right spot.
I am starting to research the new HDDVD and blue ray technology that is coming out and im worried. Worried about what? Is it that there will be 2 competing technologies...
