    Pioneer Elite # VSX07TX Reciever

I need some help please. I own the above listed reciever and it really is a good unit. I do have one problem. If I set the front speakers to large on initial screen set up for home theater, the reciever will NOT send a bass signal to the speakers when in stereo mode. The reciever automatically assumes that the front speakers will provide enough bass but they do not. I have a complete set of Klipsch KSP400 tower speakers which have a powered sub in each tower. I know there has to be a quick fix for this problem without having to change speaker settings in the on screen display every time I want to listen in stereo. Can anyone assist me ??? I thank you in advance for your help...

Is there a separate setting for the sub on/off in 2-channel mode?

        Hello FL Ann,

I have an Elite model that is a little newer than yours. Hopefully the interfaces aren't all that different.

My first question that I need to ask: Do you have a powered sub or are you just using the ones in your KSP400's?

Next, if you are using the sub's in the towers, did you run your sub output from your Elite to the subwoofer input on each main speaker?

In the speaker setup menu (at least with my VSX-27TX) you can choose the "PLUS" setting. This will route a little more bass (like a boost button) to the sub. But it is important that you have the sub output from the Pioneer connected.

All of this is assuming that you have calibrated your speaker levels already. Hopefully using a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) meter.

Let us know if any of this helps. If not, we can try to figure it out a little more.

          Hello FL Ann,

My first question that I need to ask: Do you have a powered sub or are you just using the ones in your KSP400's? The KSP400 have powered sub's in the cabinet. I am using those as my subs.

Next, if you are using the sub's in the towers, did you run your sub output from your Elite to the subwoofer input on each main speaker? Yes

Let us know if any of this helps. If not, we can try to figure it out a little more. Just FYI, there was a review done on this unit. The only negative part of the review was this specific problem. Now I can go into set up and change the speaker settings to theatre mode but that seems to lose some of the mid base on the front chanel speakers. This is OK for 5.1 in which you really do not hear a difference but in stereo a lot of the depth is lost.

Ok, I just finish reading the owners book for your speakers online. Very nice speakers BTW.

Some things I wanted to ask: Are you hooked to the LFE Input on the speakers or the Sub Input? Have you adjusted the output level for the subwoofer by adjusting the knobs on the speakers? Have you tried to just run speaker wires only (no sub connection)?

Your 400's have nice 15" woofers on them. They "should" be more than enough umph. The manual states that you should realize good bass by just running speaker wires since, the subwoofers work as an independant unit away and as such, should still give you good impact. Also, I noticed that you have 3 sets of binding post. Looking at the owners instructions you should be connected to the first set going from left to right. And be sure that all the connecting strips for the binding post are in place.

Another thought is to run your Elite in "Direct Mode" when you listen in stereo. This will/should bypass any processing and get everything straight to the speakers unaltered. :T

Have you adjusted the output level for the subwoofer by adjusting the knobs on the speakers? Have you tried to just run speaker wires only (no sub connection)? The LFE & Sub inputs are automatically binded togethet as per the owers manual. All adjustments are made.

This will/should bypass any processing and get everything straight to the speakers unaltered I might not be explaining the problem properly. This problem will only happen if I set up the front speakers to large. If I set them on small or use the sutomatic THX setting then the subs will recieve a bass signal durning stereo operation. The problem is the speakers sound much better in stereo when set to large for stereo. Right now I have the system set up in THX. When this reciever first came out Jedd Hursh did a review. He loved everything about the reciever but pointed out this one problem. He said there were several ways to get around this but never mentioned how to di it. The problem is that the LFE is my only input for bass. The LFE turns itself off durning stereo operation. If I bind the posts on the back of the speaker then I lose control when in 5.1 mode. The next thing I want to say is, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THIS MUCH TIME TO HELP. If I could get ahold of Judd Hursh he might be able to explain his quote which was "there are several ways to go around this but the fixes have to be done each time you go to stereo mode" JRD

I'm sorry that I haven't been able to help fix the problem or figure out the work around. It is a unique situation indeed. Maybe someone else during the week will see the thread with the answer and chime in.

Not a problem. This is what the forum is all about. I just hope we can get this figured out for you.
