B&W XT4 vs Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two relatively small and beautiful high quality speakers. Any one has heard both of them? How do they compare in sonic terms?

        HI Kal,
LOL. Man, you've got to be quick around here! I was thinking the same thing then tried to imagine what a carpeted ceiling would look like. Woombish, I think. But, except for direct reflections which could be taken care of with relatively small area floor rugs, the ceiling would provide the required surface area.

Well, I wouldn't put carpet on the ceiling but 1" OC703 with a light-colored fabric cover.

              HI Julie,
Are you still talking to me after I suggested that you carpet your floors? :P

Google OC703 and you will come up with some hits.

Julie, its great to hear that you take your Hi Fi and Home theatre seriously enough to be discussing room treatments etc and it is good to get the female view point on what is acceptable and what is not asthetically.

However, this is the first time I have encountered the HAF or husband acceptance factor.

Are you sure you are not just blaming your other half?

Just kidding! Similarly to what was suggested by Aussie Geoff, perhaps some large wall hangings will do the trick such as persian wall rugs etc.

Not my particular taste but in a more contemporary look and colour they may be the answer, or at least contribute to the solution.

It would be a shame to not get the best out of all the great gear you are or have purchased.

                  Pete

Compressed fiberglass and, yes, they will work on the walls. However, you may want thicker for the walls/corners. Read the info at:

What finally reaches your ears is the combination of many things. Recording, "source", amplification, speakers, your room. It is important to consider your room as part of the system bringing music to your ears. Most of this has been discussed above, but let
me summarise what I have found most important.
You want to absorb the first reflections - floor, ceiling, and walls. Ideally these would be
broadband absorbers. On the floor this is is difficult, but even a rug between speakers
and listeners can make a big difference (a nice wool rug, with jute backing, can both look good and significantly improve acoustics - plus it keeps your feet warm). In most rooms you also need ALOT
of broadband bass absobtion. Some of this can be disguised as furniture, some
you might just have stick there and deal with. It is amazing what a few hundred
dollars of rigid fiberglass can do to a room.
Kal lists some good vendors, the people running these companies
make a good product, and, contribute alot of good information.
                      I'd add one more

even though I have actually not used them, they seem to have a decent product at a decent price.
A good place to start learning about these things is Ethan's (realtraps) FAQ

                        Hi Pete,

you caught me out in a half truth i begged for the polished floors so removing them would result in divorce

Yep. I built 9 traps (4 5" thick, 5 2" thick) for roughly $200, that's a pretty good deal. Made a huge difference for the small investment.
