Certified Electrician Coming at 8 a.m. Tuesday.....

Got a $400 quote for a new dedicated (grounded) outlet (amp) and for grounding an exisitng outlet (Rest of System).

Don't freak on the price -- we're talking 1920's plaster and lathe walls with random diagonal solid harwood fire stops and a true crawl (max 4ft clearance)attic. Did I mention it was summer in Atlanta Ga, too?

Is there anything I should ask for (or demand)? I'v got 14-2 cable and space for a 20amp circuit.

Please denote comments/suggestions as Dedicated Outlet (DO)
or Rest of System (ROS) outlet.

    Thanks

Is the existing outlet (ROS) dedicated to the ROS only or is it a shared circuit with other outlets? If so, I recommend setting up the ROS circuit as a dedicated system-only outlet as well as the amp (DO) outlet.

The requirements may vary by location, but places I've lived require 12 gauge wire for 20Amp circuits - your electrician should know your code requirements of course.

Make sure he files with the town and it gets inspected by the town afterwords, that way you won't be liable if you get sued if your place burns down.

The filing suggestion is absolutely a must. But also get yourself a copy and keep it in a safe place :T

              dedicated 20amp circuit?
              by Herbonbay
I'm currently removing a living room wall to better accommodate my system. As long as I'm taking out a wall, I've decided to install a dedicated 20amp circuit. I've never been convinced of the need for a line conditioner, never heard a difference, but a dedicated circuit does make sense.

I think I got this right but all you Electrical engineers and electronic officianados - feel free to comment or correct me where I've got it wrong.

If Total Power Consumption (Watts) = Volts x Amperes, then Amperes = Watts/Volts. Peak maximum output for a 5 channel 300w Amplifier would...

              My f&%#ng electrician
              by Kobus
I have to vent my anger.

About 18 months ago I renovated my house. Totally rewired as well. I have plenty of electricity available. 3 phase x 80 amps.

I had one specific instruction for the electrician. Put my soundroom / HT on a dedicated circuit.

              If there...

              Adding a Dedicated 20A Circuit
              by Armbender
I am looking at adding a 20A dedicated circuit for my HT. My dad is an electrician and will do all of the work, he's certainly not into HT by any means though...

what are things to do and also to avoid when doing this..

              Thanks..

              Dedicated circuit question?
              by Herbonbay
About a year ago I put in two 20 amp dedicated circuits, a cheap and easy upgrade that really did live up to the advertised improvments in my system. I have a question for the electical engineer types that may be lurking on the forum. The last three feet of romex that feeds my amp is coiled like a phone...
