Best DVD player with budget of $600 for Sony SXRD?

Other than it's a 1st generation HD player, that's likely your best bet if you might want HD-DVD (why not, right?). Are DVD-A/SACD and/or CD playback a large concern? If not and your prime concer is upscaled SD-DVD, then the Oppo Brandon mentioned is around $200 and has one of the best upsampled pics out there.

Audio is also a concern for me. I will be listening to lots of CDs.

Used Pioneer DV-59avi. There's more of them now as people trade up to the 79avi and the HD players.

With the SXRD, I would spring for the Toshiba HD-A1 for $500. Then you would have HD DVD and a better than decent upscaler for SD.
