The Pioneer appears to be a 2003 model, where the Denon has the latest technologies, as previously described. My vote would be for the Denon, of course YMMV.

The denon would be more of a warm sound than the pioneer if your using brighter speakers,neutral type aural experiance.
Not sure of the kind of sound between the standerd pioneer recievers vs elite line,if there is a warmer vs brite,etc.RobertComment

In South Africa the Denon's are much more expensive than the Pioneers. Say compairing the 3805 to the Ax5ai. In our market I would go for pioneer, and the next step would be Rotel etc.

Denon 3805 vs pioneer vsx-2014i on B&W 600 speakers: Denon was harsh sounding and too bright for my taste. Pioneer was warm and more in control, especially the bass compartement. But I don't know about todays models.Comment
