    Using Power Conditioners with Subs?

I had a problem with one of my subs blowing the driver due to a power outage/surge. Just wondering what you all do with your subs. Do you use a line conditioner with your sub(s)? Are there any advantages for a line conditioner? What are the disadvantages if any?

Subs are strictly used for home theater --- not music. More background info from my post in the Home Theater forum:

    Thanks in advance!

Like I said on your other post, I use a Monster power conditioner for my sub (as well as most of my electronics). I have not had any problems with the arrangement thus far.

I don't know if having it plugged in with other equipment leads to a "power shortage" during certain conditions or not. I may play around with some things tonight.

Just make sure what ever you use can supply enough power when the sub needs it. You don't want a bottleck there If power surges are your main concern (ie: not power conditioning) just get a whole house surge protection unit installed by an electrician :T

Thanks guys for your help with this. I'm curious about the whole house surge protection. Any ideas on how much to expect to install one of these units? Thanks!

          Choices

          EAmin,

I originally had a whole house surge supressor (Intermatic) installed. The units are about $40 at places like Home Depot. Then add electricians cost to it. These units do offer protection. These are parrallel units. In a surge, these units kick in at the same time the power goes to the equipment. Good protection, but some power leaks through. Another choice is a series circuit protector. These are installed on individual circuits. They are before the breaker. I had one installed on my home theater circuit. In a surge, the power goes to this surge unit and this unit will protect prior to the power going to the circuit. The units are more expensive ($100 to $150, I think), plus electricians costs.

          Hope this helps.

well the issue is voltage spikes so i dont see what a surge protecter is going to do no matter where it is installed...

as to the original question yes use the clean power center
they can handle the current draw and will prove there worth after a brown out (not to mention all the other spikes you arnt aware of)

                Monster Subwoofer PowerCenter SW 200???

Thanks for the help guys. My dealer recently notified me that my amp blew the servo --- not the driver that he originally reported. Anyway, I had him ask Velodyne to recommend a product to prevent this from happening again. Velodyne recommended this product:

Anyone using this particular product? Seems to meet my needs as it is cheap and can function outside my rack. I'd be getting two for both Velo DD-15s.

                Thanks!

Yes sir, that's what I use for my sub (Sunfire MarkIV), I haven't encountered any issues, at least not yet.

                  Best regards,

                  Azeke

I don't like Monster as a company (business practices etc) so personally I don't like to support their products.

For my money APC has a better name for power protection/conditioning and I will always recommend their products first. YMMV

If you are concerned with voltage spikes or dips....I use the Monster AVS-2000. There are days I've seen that thing correct so much, I'm glad to have had it. (it has indicators on the front face to show what's coming in and how much it's correcting)

                        Worth the protection IMO

That's a serious piece of transformer. And reasonably priced, too. :jawdrop:

Would you mind providing opinions/advice related to power configurations in a stereo setup that includes a hell of a lot of expensive Classe equipment?

                            by vsarathy
Could you guys offer me suggestions for power conditioners/surge protectors for my HT. Specifically, I intend to get a 1098/1095 and would like to connect them both to that unit. And, connecting the 1095 would, of course, require a conditioner with high-current ratings. BTW, what is the maximum current...

Any news about possible power conditioners (RLC-1040, RLC-1080) for the european market? I'm wondering why Rotel is sticking with the US market only. For a few hundred euro I'd be more than happy to add a rotel power conditioner and surge protector to my hifi plus have somewhere to connect all those...

Has any of you experienced any audible diffierences ( particularly in lower frequencies reproduction) , when powering your amps through your power conditioner Vs the walls outlets ?
