what screen size is too big?

I have an 8 ft tall wall and 27 feet wide. Would you go with an 8 ft tall screen and have it 16 ft wide? (my basement room has no windows)

Can reasonably priced projectors handle this size screen?
Would it even look right to the viewer to have the screen go down to the floor?
What aspect ratio is the widest for movies to be released?

To answer your question: The right size depends on how far back you sit from the screen. To close and you will see issues including SDE.

Also where would you put the centre speaker?

keep in mind you're going to have to pay an arm and a leg for any screen over 120".
And black out cloth only goes to around 55" tall.
You could, of course, paint.

More than likely, in your situation, i'd get 102-120 inches and be pretty happy.
If you're going high, make sure your projector has some good lumen output otherwise you'll be going through bulbs like crazy in bright mode.

I currently have a 120" diag screen and I am very happy with it and I have room dimensions simular to yours. I also believe anything larger will require higher end equipment, i.e. lenses, scalers, etc. Go 120 you'll be happy and so will your pockets.
