    Ground Loop

I need some advice for a cheap ground loop isolator/filter. Seems I'm getting some hum from my DVD player. Everything is plugged into 1 circuit and in phase so that's not it. Probably got a plug(s) wired backwards somewhere in the house. I'm not really inclined to go through all the wiring to find it if I don't have to.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The first thing I would try is to hook a ground wire (can be very thin) from the DVD chassis (say a metal screw on the back panel) to the grounding lug or metal screw on the back panel of your pre/pro or receiver.

You can try p/n 75-504 from Calrad. Maybe Lex at Cat Cables can give a better suggestion.

Best bet is to find and fix the root cause though.

Jim first off, do not go with a two-prong cheater plug. That's just asking for major trouble. Now as far as cheap - what's your budget? Mondial makes the MAGIC Box ground isolator which goes for about $90-100 US. It'd be my choice other than finding the root cause of the ground loop and correcting it (probably your cable company didn't wire to the house ground - they're notorious).

Thanks. I'll let you know how I got rid of the hum.

I wish I could be a little less discriminating about the sound of my system so I wouldn't keep driving myself nuts with things like this.

I bit the bullet and got a Moster HTS1000 MKII. The hum is gone and, since everything is grounded properly, no one gets fried.

          Thanks for the input.

Ground Loop Hum and the RSP-1066
            by Daymond
Just got a 1066 and I am having a problem with what I think is Ground Loop Hum. I have the unit hooked up to a Monster PowerCenter HTS-3500MkII which is plugged in to a grounded outlet with all of my other components. I then disconnected the other components leaving only this processor plugged in along...

Ground Loop Hum & Cable Isolator
            by Club1820
So when I first set up my HT I had a terrible Ground Loop Hum. With the help of this forum I purchased the Jensen Isolator and all things were great. I connected the isolator directly to the cable outlet in the basement/HT and the hum was gone. I even "think" it improved the picture. (?)...

            RB-1080 humming / ground loop
            by Olaf
            Dear All,

Like many of you I had a ground loop problem caused by my cable TV connection. Via my dealer in India I was able to obtain a ground breaker (which he had imported from China). This ground isolator was based on breaking the ground connection using I believe windings much like...

Another - RMB 1095 Ground Loop / Satellite
            by hamiltong
Like many others before me - after installing all my new toys (RSP 1068 & RMB 1095) - I now have the infamous ground loop hum. God it's annoying.

It's definitely attributed to my satellite coax feed. When unplugging the coax from the SAT receiver hum is gone. Or unplugging the S-Video...

Major Ground Loop after Direct TV upgrade from Dish.
            by mitch57
Thank You Very Much Direct TV!!! I upgraded (or should I say downgraded) from Dish to Direct TV. I bought a new 50" plasma and upgraded to HD. I knew that this was one of the first things I was going to be looking for after the installation.

Low and behold immediately after he...
