Question on HT setup (HDMI/DVI related)

O.k. here is what I have:

NEC 50" HD Plasma (1 DVI input on back)
    Yamaha RX-V2500 receiver
DirecTV HD Receiver (Samsung and has HDMI output) and dish
    Panasonic S97S up-scaling DVD player
Various NHT, B&W, and M&K speakers

I will mostly watch television HD and otherwise from the satelite and for local stations from the HD antenna. Based on this I think I should connect the DirecTV HD Receiver directly to the plasma via HDMI/DVI. How should I hook up the up-scaling DVD remembering that there is only 1 DVI connection on the plasma? My understanding is to take advantage of the DVD upscaling I would need to use an HDMI/DVI connection. Is that correct? Is some sort of switching device necessary?

Am I on the right track? Some quick words of advice would be appreciated.

What I would do is use component video from the dish box and use the HDMI for the upscaling DVD player. The reason being, that the DVD player won't provide the upscaled signal though the component video outputs but the satellite box will.

If you want or need to use HDMI or DVI for both (as you might if/when broadcasters start encrypting HD feeds), you can get an HDMI switcher. They aren't cheap though.

DVI/HDMI cable length...How Long can you go?
      by ToddAnisman
I need to run about 25'-30' from my equipment rack to the PJ. I would love to go DVI->HDMI. Before I plop $250 on the cable (and then a bunch more labor and work putting it in the ceiling...) I would dig it if any of you have had experience, either positive or negative with this length of cable....

      Howdy all ye fellow nuts...

I've been hunting for a new universal DVD player to partner with my new Sony HD plasma [1024x768] with DVI (hdcp) input.

      Considerations:
      - 60% Movies / 20% SACD & DVD-A / 20% CD
      - limited rack height, so can't consider the Denon...

I have an Oppo 971H DVD cabled directly to my TV via a DVI cable which has been this way for over a year. No complaints with PQ up to this point. I decided I would like to have pre/pro OSD which is available through component connections on my Krell showcase processor. I added a set of cables keeping...
