Howdy all ye fellow nuts...
I've been hunting for a new universal DVD player to partner with my new Sony HD plasma [1024x768] with DVI (hdcp) input.
Considerations:
- 60% Movies / 20% SACD & DVD-A / 20% CD
- limited rack height, so can't consider the Denon DVD3910 :cry:
- looks of course (WAF)
After much research, I've shortlisted 3 players.....
1) Denon DVD2910 @ $1,200 (+ $500 CD player)
Pros: DVI & HDMI, upscaling, Faroudja DCDI
Cons: SACD & DVD-A sound quality?, macro-blocking?, green push?
2) Marantz DV8400 @ $1,100 (+ $500 CD player)
Pros: great price!, DVI, sound quality, THX
Cons: soon to be discontinued, no upscaling?
3) Marantz DV9500 @ $1,650
Pros: all
Cons: price, no DVI, convert HDMI to DVI?, don't need the Dolby headphone jack
I've indicated prices above which include all shipping to sunny South Africa, taxes and import duties.
Unfortunately I can't demo any of these machines, so I'll rely on research and your usual expert advice :W
Rest of my system: NAD T163 pre/pro, NAD S250 amp, REL sub, B&W speakers.
