Connecting PC through AV receiver (DVI/HDMI)

Has anyone had trouble connecting their PC through their receiver?

    Here is my setup
PC with ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card with DVI and VGA outputs.
Yamaha RX-V1600 with 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output
Dell 5100MP projector with about one of each type of input imaginable.

My goal was to run all my video through the Yamaha to the projector using only an HDMI cable to connect it.

Problem is when I run a DVI/HDMI cable from the PC to the receiver, the display gets cut off on the sides and doesnt display correctly (this is at 1280x1024 res). When I bump it down to 1024x768, the text gets really out of whack. Is this receiver just not meant to do this? It works perfectly fine when I run the PC straight to the projector DVI-HDMI

Currently I have my PC running to the projector using VGA since I dont have a long enough DVI-DVI cable. Im guessing worst case I will just have to have a seperate DVI cable from my PC to the projector. My question then is, is it really worth it to spend the money on a long DVI cable or just stick with VGA? I couldnt really tell much of a difference in my short comparison...

Im kinda bummed because I wanted to be able to control everything using the Receiver. I was actually using a Harmony remote but for some reason it wont control my Dell Projetor...

DVI and HDMI can be very finicky with the multitude of versions for each spec. Chances are there's some compatability issues between the ATI's DVI version and the Yamaha's HDMI version. Try contacting both manufacturers to see if they have any solutions

That's odd. I connect my Dell 8200 laptop to my 720p Panasonic AE-700 projector sometimes via composite and DVI/HDMI. (the laptop has DVI out, so I use a DVI adaptor to run a HDMI cable to the projector) I have minor quirks like readability and small edges of the screen cut off, but nothing huge.

That's just weird that you're only getting the problem when you actually route it through the receiver.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Just put out first 1600 in today. There are options for changing what it does with the inputs for 480i. Without it being a true HD resolution, maybe the 1600 doesn't know what to do.

Have you tried setting it to a 4:3 or 16:9 resolution - 1280x1024 isn't a true 4:3 resolution, its in fact a little narrower, so its possible Yamaha's receivers aren't taking too kindly to resolutions which aren't one of the above aspect ratios. Try setting it to 1280x720 for a 16:9 resolution (this is the same resolution as 720P HDTV) or try 1280x960 for a 4:3 resolution. If you feel lucky and you know your 9600 PRO and projector can go this far, then try 1920x1080 for 1080p/i HDTV experience.

What does the display device come up as under Control Panel for the DVI output? (e.g. issit the name of the projector or does it just come up as Standard Plug and Play Monitor?)
