      Ah...

What is musically significant/unusual about the "Mission Impossible" theme song ever since it started in the old TV show? (i.e. nothing new with the new remixes)

Nobody? This is fairly evident to those who know about music, not intuitive for the general public, but a neat tidbit for those who have read music or played music or such.

Don't know much about music structure (or have forgotten it), but it has a 5:4 bpm pattern?

Or that it was written by a guy named "Lalo"?

There you go... it's written in 5-4 time, which is quite unusual for music. But the song really flows, and it's catchy, so it didn't turn out super weird. In part of the song, it goes to 4-4 time, which is much more conventional, and then back to 5-4 for the main chorus part.

Leon Russell wrote This Diamond Ring and Gary Lewis and the Playboys
had the success with the song.
Later, Dave... The year was 1965 (I think)

Wow, one I think I might know the answer for. Definitely, it was Gary Lewis (Jerry's son) and the Playboys and wasn't the writer something like Al Kooper of Super Session and Highway 61 Revisited fame? I just remember that it was someone like that and am pretty sure it was Al.

If I'm right, it will only be about three years since I last knew an answer, so, even if you have to lie, tell me I'm right, ok? :B

hello. the monkees are a good guess. actually bubble gum was what kept them from hitting number one almost every time. this band had numerous number 2 songs , it seemed for them that everytime they had a great song recorded there was bubble gum . you know like for instance yummy yummy yummy ... ? maybe thats a hint? any more good guesses?

hey ,,, come on guys ,, ive got a couple pretty good trivia questions posted for your entertainment. ill give a couple more clues. on the first question : the MOST popular band of the 1960's to never have a number 1 hit ? clue, this bands front man went on to a sucessful solo career, recording several albums, one of which he played every instrument and all vocals single handedly. second question: a major recording artist of the 1950's wanted to sign hendrix the first time he heard him in the 60's ... some call this guy "wizard".. ? clue , hendrix used a few of this guys inventions on every recording and live show he did. i should say that he wanted to sign hendrix but did not...

Well, I guess cross off Cream as Clapton never played all the instruments.

Steve Winwood could play a ton of instruments, but I'm not sure they'd be considered that popular.

Stevie Wonder often played quite a few instruments on recordings, but I don't recall him being in a group.

Signed I'm stumped, but extremely curious.

                                                      Good questions.

I'll be racking my brain though.

HE PLAYED ALL INSTRUMENTS AND VOCALS AS WELL AS RECORDING THE TRACKS AND MIXING. the answer to the second question is Les Paul. he had a string of number ones with Mart Ford in the early 50's . he heard Hendrix play one night and wanted to sign him then , however when he returned to discuss this futher with hendrix , he had already been signed. Les Pauls inventions are legendary including , close miking , multi track recording (over dubbing) along with effects design and modification (wah wah , fuzz, ...). personally i credit him with the invention of the electric guitar, some would say Leo Fender,,, debateable. you can pass this along if you choose. best regards, itssmoke

We have a winner to the "lead band for the Monkees question".

Hmmm, lemme see if I can dredge up a question from one of my "favorite bands" list. . . .

Okay, who was the lead vocalist/guitarist that had to leave The Doobie Brothers after they became successful due to medical issues? FWIW, he came back after a decade and is still with the band.

I've decided to learn the guitar. It started with my youngest daughter, saying she wanted to learn, so I went out and bought her one. Then, I thought, hey, I've always wanted to learn. We could learn together. I went out and bought myself an electric acoustic guitar and amp. Well, you know I can get obsessive and, before you know it, I went out and bought an electric guitar too. Now, I'm just waiting for the amp I've chosen to go on sale.

I practice about 45-60 minutes a day and don't care if I ever get great. It's just fun and relaxing. There's an awful amount of stuff to learn with all the open chords, other chords, barre chords, scales, fingerpicking, etc. and, especially at 57, I'm probably not the most limber, musically talented person in the world, but I'll tell you I really, really enjoy it.

Can't wait until one of the amps I want goes on sale, which I expect to be in a week or two.

Talk to you later. Oh, by the way, one of your recent emails had pictures of dogs. I'm using a couple for wallpapers, especially since one is a dead ringer for one of our dogs.

As far as types of music, I bought the electric with the thoughts of playing some bluesy type music, but, now, I'm not so sure. Even though I can't play well at all now, or maybe ever, something about playing melodies on the acoustic really is relaxing. I've been playing simple melodic songs like Scarborough Fair and Greensleeves and just enjoying it. As Katie is having a lot more difficult time of it, I actually figured out how she could play the melody to one of her favorite songs, "And I Love Her", by the Beatles, to kind of encourage her. I'm sure what I wrote out isn't perfect, but it sounds right and it would give her a sense of what was at the end of the tunnel.

I also have started playing good, but not too difficult, chordal songs like Heart of Gold and Hey Joe. Again, mistake ridden, but so much fun for me. I realize that I'll never be as good on guitar as you are on organ, but it just makes me feel good nonetheless.

That may change as I did break down and order the amp for the electric guitar and it'll be here late next week. My fingers don't move fast enough to play hard pushing blues, but, maybe, tasteful slow bluesy stuff will work if I work hard at it.
